I need some more imput on rail pressure and what #'s do I need to expect, with my sigs what do I need to be running, when you say draining the rail what #'s are they, like to hear from you experts out there????

03 4x4 auto,mbrp 4 in exhaust,3 pod isspro gauges,mac air system,airdog fuel system,II dual feed line,ATS manifold,I have the rail pressure level and reading on my TST/Mp8 stacked,sittin on 20's,soon to come SPS 62,Don M 40's ;)

There is actual rail pressure and rail pressure set. The set is what the computer commands the pressure to be at. The WOT fuel press. needs to be at 20K and above to make good power and keep the egt's low. turn the TST down and raise the HP number on the box until the rail pressure drops at WOT, then click it back one. The TQ function can be around 7.

what do you mean when you say turn the tst down and raise the hp # on the box until the rail pressure drops, and click it back one, what does the tq and hp need to be set one,can you explain a little more one click it back one?will it help once I get a turbo and some injectors?thanks

no, turbos and inj will not help. The inj will only make it worse. A modded cp3 will help though. Once again, turn the tq to 7 on the TST. Turn the HP to 2 on the TST, full throttle it to 80 mph or so. Check rail pressure. Then try 3 on HP, and check rail pressure at WOT. Keep on upping the HP level. U will find a number that when at WOT around 50 MPH or so the pressure wil drop below 20K. This level is too high and you need to back her down one level. So lets say that level 6 ran over 20 k and when you put it on level 7 it would drop to 16 K then you would need to put the HP level on 6. This is diferent on every truck. Seat of the pants and boost meen NOTHING!!!!! You can make more boost and make less power when turning up the TST. Rail pres. is a very important sign of when to not cross the TST line. When you start going with injectors then you will need to turn the TST down.

Okay back to boost and HP while adjusting the TST. When you turn the TST up above the point that the rail pressure drops, the drop in rail pressure will make the ignition of the diesel harder and will make the diesel ingnite too late. When this happens the egt's will raise severely. So with more heat there is more expansion of exhaust gases. With more expansion the turbo will boost more (More pressure). On my truck i can make "X" amount of power at 58 psi boost, then turn the TST up and read 63 psi boost and lose 150HP. So when tuning your truck, the pyro and rail pressure gauge can be VERY usefull.

at what point then would I be ready for a turbo and injectors, what would you reccommend I do next to my truck, you have seen my sigs. thanks

you asked about rail pressure not HP in general. You need rail pressure to make HP, but there are other factors. You can only flow X amount of fuel and then injectors are needed. Injectors should be the last thing you do to make HP. Alot of questions need to be answered first. How much power do i want/need? What elevation will the truck be primarilly running at? Is the truck play or work? What does it tow? This will tell me what turbo the truck should use and what combination of Fuelling should be added. Dons 40 HP inj work nice on the 03's. 03 trucks need injectors more. The sp 62 may be a little small but thats your call. I don't think its enough turbo for the money, but take it for what its worth.

To answer your last question, what should be your next thing you add, I think the next thing should be a triple disk converter (Goerend Trans 563-778-2719) with the lifetime warrenty. If you tow heavy and need a tighter stall (medium stall) get the 800 by 300 converter or if you want holeshot power then get the 15 blade left cut converter. Also get Goerend's VB. Also while your there get the billet Flex Plate by ATS. Thats the bare minimum i would get. Then after that throw on the turbo, then throw in the injectors. Hope this helps.

I forgot to post it in my sigs,I already have a full DTT transmission,Stephen up at DTT said the setup that I have he has guys running around 700 to 800 horse with it,so I am good there, should I maybe go with II silver bullet, who's injectors would you recommend, you tell me you know more about it then I do,about the only thing I tow is a 33 ft fithwheel 10 or 15 times a yr,we go a perty good distance with it occasionally,I am not real sure about our elavation,I live in KY,I am looking for right aroung 600 horse or close to it,the way I am now I should be all over 500 horse, correct, please let me know what you recommend?

Just give Reb B. a call. He has so much information, and sometimes it's hard to decipher in a thread, plus it makes him type a lot. Check out his websit or give him a call. He's a great guy, knows his stuff, and wants to help.

Ken, The way the truck is set up now its not near 500 HP. The stock turbo and the stock injectors are killin' ya on the 03. But when you change (upgrade) your fuelling system then a lot of other things will also need to be upgraded. The 03 and 04 trucks need injectors much more than the 04. 5 and above trucks. To be in the 600 range a 64-66 size pinwheel will be needed when not using NOS. But take this for what its worth. When running a TST and an EZ, my truck ran fine (03), but when i put the BDDL on, I picked up a whole second in the quarter mile. Take it for what its worth. Now when i put the EZ on top of that combo it did nothing, ... ... ... ... until i had larger injectors and a modded cp3. The biggest help there was the cp3, becuase if you have nothing to make pressure with, then the ez won't work. Ken it seems like you have spent alot of money in maintence and protection and that is a VERY good thing. The next money you spend (turbo, cp3, injectors) will really make that truck move out. Let us know what direction you go and how the truck does. Main thing, Have Fun while upgrading. Too many people jump from 235 HP to 600 HP too fast and lose the fun in the middle.

Can you tell me what turbo,injectors,cp3 pump I need, and what kind of price were looking at,whos turbo, whos injectors, whos cp3 pump, cause those are my next step, what do you mean when you say upgrade youre fueling system are you talking about a modded cp3 pump,I know I need one of those, i have a airdog on it,also once I have all that would a smarty benefit me any, cause I see what youre saying about the rail pressure I got to get more fuel to it and maintain it,let me know?????

I'm gonna start stepping on toes here, because the info you are wanting is personnal preference, But if you were one of my custumers this i what i would say, PLEASE, take it for what its worth. Injectors are easy, Don M Formula 1. cp3 would be floor-it or II. Both are good companies and both make good products. I think that BD makes the best turbos for the buck. That super B "SPECIAL" is awesome and regular super b is super fast, everybody has their own thoughts, thats just mine. For all out performance and money is not an option, Turbonetics is hard to beat. As far as fuelling boxes go, I'm not going to speak my mind on the web. Hope this helps a little. As far as prices go I've been know for throwing some good numbers out, but only to people that call. Most fenders have their retail price on their websites.
