Can Someone Answer This Fuel Question For Me?

So how are the new 6.7/aisin holding up with power upgrades?

I haven't had any luck getting an answer from the Dodge dealerships, so I thought I'd ask the experts. If I buy a 6. 7L,that is intended to burn the 15 PPM Ultra Low Sulpher Fuel, can I drive it to Alaska or Mexico? I understand that Canada has something similar to ULSF, but I'm not sure if the 6. 7 will burn it without causing damage of some kind. I'm guessing, but I don't think Mexico goes to the trouble of refining their diesel to the standards we have here in the states. When I retireI want to travel, but I don't want to buy a truck that I have to tow with a Toyota Prius. Maybe you folks know. Thanks.
 
ask john holms at carson dodge. I think you will find the answer is you will destroy the practical collector if you use any thing but ULSD. and its not mandatary all over the US till year 2010 maybe.

The answer is you MUST use ulsd. Chrysler will be doing fuel testing on any trucks that come in with damaged cat/dpfs. They are Very pricey you don't want to foot that bill. They will tell you they will die very quickly with lsdf,They probably exagerate a bit on how fast it will fail.

All diesels including off road and Marine will be required to be tier3 by 2008;)

It's called a Diesel Particulate Filter.



Member EB here has over 15,000 Miles on his running LSD and has not reoprted a problem yet. He says that with LSD the regeneration process happens much more often compared to when he runs ULSD.

I'm up to 28,000 miles at the present time. I run mostly ULSD now, but it still isn't available in Victoria, Tx for some strange reason. It is available anywhere around there, but not in Victoria, my base of operations. I have had no problems at all with the truck, hope it stays that way. I believe the fuel to be ULSD for the most part, it's just that the stations haven't gotten their tanks certified.
 
You must remember that there are TWO entirely different 6. 7s for sale by Dodge. The CC 6. 7 (EB's) is designed to meet 2007 emission requirements. It only has a CAT and DPF and can tolerate some older fuel without damage. However, all the 6. 7s put into Dodge pickups (2500 and 3500) are designed to meet 2010 emission requirements. This means that they have a CAT, NOx absorber (first vehicle in North America), and a DPF. Anything other than ULSD will be death to the NOx absorber (expensive!! all three welded into exhaust pipe).



The CC 6. 7 has the stronger auto (Asin) and its version of the G56 has higher speed 6th gear. Mileage, and cost of ownership should be better with the CC 6. 7 according to DC. Let's hope that Dodge really did a good job on the pickup 6. 7 or new pickup owners may feel like ford 6. 0 goats after a while.

You can get a pretty good idea wether it is ulsd by the color and smell.

it has been the only fuel being refined here for a long time.

Good information to know, I wasn't aware the pickup line included the NOx absorber in addition to the DPF and cat. Thank you for sharing DDahl.
 
Hi is more on ULSDF on this side of the boader. All diesel fuel sold by Petro-Canada for use is ultra low sulphur diesel fuel, as requirred by federal legislation. As of Sept. 1, 2006, all Peto-Canada on-road ultra low sulphur diesel countains less than 15 ppm (parts per million of sulphur.



In Western Canada, Petro-Canada's off-road diesel fuel is generally ultra low sulphur diesel fuel. In Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, off- road diesel fuel is usually regular sulphur diesel fuel. Gary PS just phone today about my truck, it is still on BX code, it was ordered on the 14th of this month!

So... if a person is going to spend some time across the border north or south, it seems simple enough, just remove the particulate filter and cat, I just wonder?? if a person (Cummins Owner) had their truck reflashed in Mexico, would it run better?? get better milage?? or do the Cummins Rams in Mexico operate on the same programs as ours??Oo. Oo.
 
ulsd in british columbia ,have been using it since sept/oct. 06 on vancouver island. dont see anyone selling uld here. I have not experienced any problems with my 98. 5. still have the original vp-44 at 44677kms.

You would get the flash needed for your region truck when their computer is plugged into the trucks computer.



Remove the particulate filter, and I am going to assume the computer will give you half power or atleast a de-rated power with a check engine light.



If I understand correctly, individuals cannot own diesel powered vehicles in Mexico. You can only drive one for business.

It seems that someone down there must have figured out a way to run our diesel trucks down there on their dirty fuel, otherwise what would be the use in stealing them up here and taking them down there :confused: An awful lot of gringos driving diesel RV's down there so there must be a pretty good fuel delivery infrastructure, I've never heard of having to buy fuel only at commercial stations in Mexico?? I'm curious if Cummins diesel engines sold in Mexico have different ECM programming??
 
There is nothing wrong with Mexicos diesel,it is the gas you have to worry about. There are many different software pkgs available but once a configuration is loaded it can not be changed at the dealer level.

I wonder how easy it would be to purchase a CC 6. 7 and mount a RAM pickup bed someone has taken off a 3rd Gen truck? Best of both? Would look like a regular pickup but would have the better motor and transmission.

Now WHERE did you hear that? :confused: :confused:



I personally know of 4 guys that own a Cummins powered Dodge and live south of the border, native and transplant both.
