I have heard of it, listened to it and now i have experenced it, i was messing around in the snow today and she barked at me alittle bit, just wondering how this happens and the effects on it, i am pretty sur it isnt really bad for the turbo, but some please give me some info? my truck is an 05 CTD 4x4 auto transmission

It is when boost pressure goes back through the turbo. It is very harmful to the turbo! Broken vanes, sheared shaft, etc. .

turbo building more boost than the engine can use, which causes it to return to the turbo backwards. bad things can happen, not always.

Mine will bark mildly anytime I let off the pedal hard. The 2 g's do it as well, just can hear it so well over the louder motor.

It is something I try to avoid, but have stopped worrying too much about. Mine does it mildly, even when the auto shifts itself in cruise mode.
