So first of all let me say this site is great i just joined, here is my problem, i have posted on several other forums and have gotten no response so here goes. Every time i fill up with in 2-5 miles on a fresh tank of fuel, my check engine light comes on, i get the same code P0148, this only happens when i fill the tank full, if i put in say half a tank light does not come on, the place where i get my fuel their turnover rate is roughly 20-30 thousand gallons a week, it is irving diesel which is suppose to be very clean, dealer has plugged the truck in and when they do it comes up with the code but says my engine light isnt on which it is. I had read another guy having the same kinda problem his issue was bacteria in his tank, so i thought well i'd give it a shot so i changed the fuel filter and picked some power service with the bacteria killer in it i am on my second tank and still the same issue, now the truck runs fine, dash gagues are in the right spot, etc, i did notice a slight knocking sound? just above an idle, not sure if this is related or not, dealer has done all the updates that we were able to find. I did have four injectors go a couple of months back, which they replaced, i have a Volant cold air intake on the truck and an aero turbine muffler other than that truck is STOCK. its a 2005 2500 CTD 610 QC 4x4 auto transmission with 3:73 ratio. Sorry for the long post but i am hoping that i can get some idea of what is going on with my truck, this is last resort. THanks

Are you absolutely sure it is 0148? I have checked and re-checked codes and can not find that one. Anything remotely close is O2 sensor related

P0148 = fuel delivery error, what ever that means!

Maybe sag2, who's always a wealth of good info will chime in here.

This happens every time i fill up i can earse it after like a quater of a fresh tank is used but then it comes back every time i fill up, are there any sensors that are related to the fuel delievery when your tank is full? or any sensors period that are related to the fuel tank?? SHould i go back to the stock air intake and see what happens?

This is from DC diagnostic manual on P0148

Symptom:

P0148-HIGH PRESSURE COMMON RAIL (HPCR) CHECKSUM

When Monitored and Set Condition:

P0148-HIGH PRESSURE COMMON RAIL (HPCR) CHECKSUM

When Monitored: While the engine is running.

Set Condition: A deviation between the fuel pressure set point and the actual fuel

pressure.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

OTHERS DTC’S PRESENT

FUEL LEAKS

FUEL CONTROL ACTUATOR

FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR

CASCADE OVERFLOW VALVE

CHECK VALVE DAMAGED OR BLOCKED

FUEL RETURN LINES OBSTRUCTION, DAMAGE, OR DEBRIS.

LIFT PUMP FLOW

AIR IN FUEL SYSTEM

LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS OR HIGH PRESSURE CONNECTORS

PRESSURE LIMITING VALVE

HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP

INTERMITTENT CONDITION

There are 2 or 3 pages of diagnostic instructions, mostly related to what you can do with a DRBIII.

is there a link that you can send to those other pages?? so i can print it out and go over it with my diesel tech? also i just did a breif over look at the engine checked lines etc, what i did find was my filter from my CAI was not on tight could this be causing any problems?? i am also wondering if maybe something go messed up when i had the new injectors put it, but it seems like it would show up long before now, i had the injectors put in around september and this just started happing around the 4th of November

Just out of curiosity, could this code be set when filling the truck while it is running? Do you fill the truck while the engine is running? Just a thought...

I got that code once and this is what it was from. It went away after a while. Not sure. Hasn't done it since though.

I have on 06 automatic. At about 3,000 miles it set a code. Took it to a dealer in the town where I was: his code showed the same as yours, but he could find no problem. About two weeks later it did it again. I took it to my local dealer who said most of the time it was a fuel cap that was not sealing. But this time he found a second code and replaced a sensor: I have now have now driven 9,500 miles with no further problems.

No idont fill the truck with it running, the foaming thing might be an issue i will ask the diesel tech see what he thinks thanks

Just for info. I have always filled mine while running and have never had any problems. I have done this for over twenty years in four diesel trucks. I fill my Dodge up to the top of the fill tube by lowering the nozzle. If your not smelling or seeing any leaks I would lean towards a sensor problem as mention above.

I've gotten the same code on my '04 on several occasions, but the engine light comes on while I'm driving and then goes out after a while, it happens when the tank is partially full.

I blame it on the banks 6-gun
