I may try to make the strip tonight, and I need to download a new Smarty tune. Bob is out for a few days, so if anyone could walk me through it I'd really appreciated it. Thanks. .

I know TGerhardt just made a post and got a response from Bob, though I need the step by step for computer dump people. .

I believe I've downloaded everything needed. I didn't know which zip file to download, so I downloaded all four of them. . When I click on the file Bob sent me, a black box just flashes on the screen and then disappears. .

I have a meeting now, when i get out I can probably answer your questions. Answer these questions while I am gone will help.

First are you running Windows XP?

Have you downloaded, unzipped and installed the USB Serial Drivers that are needed for the Smarty? (file CDM 2. 00. 00. zip)

Have you downloaded and installed the 7Zip software?

Yes, I have XP. . I believe I've downloaded those. . Thanks. .

Ok, sorry if I am repeating steps that you have already done.

Have you went threw the intial USB driver install with the Smarty connected to the computer?

Well maybe you already have the drivers needed. I assume the smarty is powered on.

You need to know which directory the SmartyUSB. exe file is in. This is the program that you run(double click on) to download a new software version into the Smarty. You can download it ready to run or in the SmartyUSB. zip file that will need to be unzipped.

Next you have to download the 7zip software and install on the computer. This is used to unzip the new Smarty software version into . smt format so they can be downloaded to the Smarty.

With me so far?

I suck at this. . This is very frustrating for someone that pretty much just knows how to type. .

I do understand, I have been in computers since the 70's and I still get frustrated on a regular basis.

I have to go right now and will be tied up for a couple of hours. Since Bob is out of pocket, if you want you can pm me a phone number and I will give you a call later when I get loose. Probably around 7:00pm cdt.

I'm the same way. . JVolpe just walked me through it step by step. . I couldn't tell you how he had me do it, but he knows his way around a computer. .

I'm getting closer. Now it says Unable to connect smart. Now what?

Well haven't seen that, but sounds like you do not have the USB Serial drivers installed or the Smarty is not connected to an active USB port.

Have you loaded the USB Drivers from the Mads site (file CDM 2. 00. 00. zip)??

I think I have figured it out. I am trying on a new computer and did not install the smarty driver. I will try here in a little bit.

I had the smarty exp driver that Bob's link on my thread lead me to. I wen and downloaded the smarty zip file. I did download it fin after I got off work.

Thanks for all the help.
