Was changing motor oil in one of my 03's. Noticed half of my starter (back half) is covered in diesel fuel. Looks line the supply line coming from inside the frame rail (underneath the drivers seat) to the fuel filter is leaking. Can I just cut out the steel line and replace it with a rubber fuel line? Also, the fuel lines going to the injector pump look real bad, (thanks to all of Jersey's road salt!!!). I was thinking of purchasing the GDP'S 2 mic. under the hood fuel filter kit and those lines are all rubber, will they replace the stock steel lines going to the injector pump? Thanks for any help. Frank

I guess I cant really speak to the 03's as I don't have one but on my 01 the fuel line has been replaced from tank to vp44 with good quality rubber (or whatever compound). It has been at least 8 years if not more and so far no problem.

All the low pressure lines can be switched to a flexible compound that will handle diesel. The only ones you don't want to do that with are the high pressure lines.

The factory fuel line is a pretty good quality stainless tube. I'm surprised it degraded so bad. Are you sure it's not just leaking at the fitting where it enters the fuel filter?

I'am in the process right now to verifiy if the leak is coming from the filter housing, fittings or the stainless lines. Will keep you posted.
