2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Can the Factory CD radio play cd-r or cd-rw?

I'm thinking of putting a "new" radio in my truck - a factory with tape and CD. But I don't want to if it can not play my recorded cd-r media. Any of you know the answer to this??

I have the CD/ Cassette player and have played CD/r that I have recorded will no problems. I like to mix my own road tunes.

As long as you burn the CD-R in audio format you'll do fine.

Never worked for me. I picked up 4 speakers and a new mp3 HU for $120 after I sold my old POS headunit on ebay.

They should play them OK,however sometimes they will not. You will have to make sure the CD is finalized also... ... ... Andy

Don't leave your burned cd's in the truck if the radio go'es bad, mine started skipping and having other problems, took the truck to the dealer to get it fixed or replaced and when they saw my home burned cd's they said that was the cause, I can't for the life of me figure out how a burned cd can cause the cd player to go bad so I questioned this excuse, they pulled out a service bulletin from DC and said they would pull it and send it in to be inspected and this would take a week or more, if it turned out that the problems were caused by my cd's it would cost me $600.

A new and far better unit cost much less from a stereo shop.

The player in my '02 plays my MP3 and CD-DA discs that I burn just fine - tho' a couple of my older home CD player decks have trouble with them...

This is what I was told is the major issue with CD-R, but only have bought ones

Home burnt CD's havent been a problem in mine.

I use the HP program to burn em. I believe it automatically finalizes them.

Mine's a 1998.

I have the Infinity system in a 99, and it DOES NOT play any of the cd's I have that are burned, have tried cleaning, and tried friends cd's from different burners, no go??

I seldom have problems with burnt cds. I have had a couple that would not play and I have been told it is due to a certian brand aka thickness? of the cd.

I know DC does not have the best track record for standards, my girlfriends Grand Cherokee does not play any CD-R/RW out of the head unit but does out of the changer that is a factory install.



My '02 however plays anything I throw at it. Now if I can just wire a jack into it for my MP3 player.

most systems out there now will play cd/cdrw and mp3 now. should not be an issue

Mine worked with Sony Brand only. Didn't work worth beans with any other brand. So I upgraded.

I have found that my 6 cd player does not like cd's made from computer IF I put on a paper label, such as that made by CD STOMPER. I have just started writing on the cd with a magic marker and all have worked fine.

Are you saying that you are putting the MP3 miles on the disk or burning from an MP3 converted to cd format?

The Infiniti AM/FM/CD/Cass in my Ram plays homebrew CD's just fine. I even have a badly scratched Kid Rock CD that I found in a parking lot and it plays fine. I was quite suprised at that!
