so i have never had my turbo bark before, but in the last week it has done it 3 times. Do i have bigger problems? or is it just something that is developed after so many miles? i've got about 95,000 miles on it.

what boost #s are you running? and have you changed tuning(comp/smarty)/driving habits(jump off accellerator?) you can check turbo shaft play as well ,any of these can cause bark. :)

if i'm in it hard i can hit about 30 psi boost, but when it has barked i'm not really driving hard. usually around 10-15 psi when it barks. i've been running the smarty on 2 and the comp on 1 when it has done it. havent checked play in the turbo shaft recently, but will look at that when i get a chance. I don't think my driving habits have changed, but i don't know, maybe i'm jumping off the accelerator more than i used to.

Im assuming you mean stuck closed. i'll look at that when i can. how do i tell? if it is stuck, what should i do to prevent it from sticking?

so it seems to be getting more frequent the more i drive. it will do it between shifts, usually from 3rd to 4th, and from 4th to 5th. But then sometimes when i try to get it to bark, it wont.

My stock turbo was very loose by 95,000 also the nut on the intake side had lost a chunk off of it ( it could have only gone one place). So I changed out and did not look back.

Pull the intake hose off of your turbo and check play up and down and side to side and see if the fins are hitting the housing. Then check in and out play.

There should not be much play in any direction.

Have better mechanics than you do the same.

I would assume other posters were asking if your wastegate is stuck open not closed as this can cause the bark. If your wastegate was stuck closed you would build more boost than normal and go really fast.

ymmv

I would have guessed the wastegate stuck closed. The wastegate makes the turbo more forgiving if it is allowed to creep up a bit. Try putting 30 psi regulated air to it and see if it moves, if not then other problems.

I am assuming that you already pulled the intake hose off and had a look?
