Here I am

Can you explain how your DTT transmission shifts?

I love my DTT Trans, the best description is to find someone in your area with one then ride in it. DTT or ATS you can't go wrong with either.

The shift of the DTT is going to depend on what you have for power, what you use the truck for and what your driving style is. Call up there and talk to Bill.

I remember a couple of threads that had the technical description of how a transmission shifts if this is what you meant?

There are forums on several of the rebuilders sites ( I'm having a DTT rebuild next week) for DTT go to their web site and they have forums. There are several different exact explanations of EXACTELY how xxx works. Straight from the "mountain man" himself.

I'm sure other rebuilders have same site setup.

There are places on the site to ask and answer questions as well.

Thay can set the shifting pretty much however you want it. Mine is set very harsh..... Oo. ... ... But that is how I requested it. Soft options are available. I would guess that dtt trans could give you the firmest shift because thay run very high line pressure compared to the competitors. But shifts can also be softened and still have high line pressure.

It is easy for a trans guy to dial in the type of shift you want. Problem is most trans with the same parts will shift a little different than another trans due to production tolerances and clutch wear etc.

The first issue with a Dodge trans is the low pressure. if set to 80-85 this is not high and abusive on parts.

I have some of there parts in mine. Wish that I would have just done it all from them. I did the VB. My shifts are quick/ clean and tight.

If I'm drinking coffee anf light footing it all is ok, but don't try to sip coffee if the throttle is 1/3 or more down as you could be wearing it!!

Go find and ride in a few and talk about it.

Before the trans up grade I put in a mystery switch and now it is completely un-needed!!

Fred Swanson & DTT

Fred Swanson did my DTT work about 10,000 miles ago and I couldn't be happier.

My cousin was waiting to get his '96 done and took me over to Fred's to pick mine up. We took it for a test drive and run the hell out of it. Other than not being able to make it slip, it didn't seem much different than stock to me. I put the slide in camper back on it and headed for Texas. Thats when I could tell the difference. It has a Jeckyl and Hyde personality. Driving sane it just walks away from the intersections like my car. No roar no nothing, just goes. It shifts to second at about 10mph, 3rd at 20mph and 4th at 30mph and locks up about 42. And I can feel them all. Beautiful!! Get on it and you better not be holding a cup of any thing because you are going to wear it. Drive it easy and it shifts firm and easy. Drive it hard and it shifts hard and wild.

My cousin had took me to Fred's in his Dodge Mini-pick up that had a souped up 360 in it. I was following him out on the highway when he motion me to come on. I didn't realize what he meant untill I saw our gap widening so I got on it. By 90mph I had run up on him and could have passed him except for traffic.

when he got home his wife was sitting on the Patio and he got out and was opening and closing all 4 of his doors. His wife said "What the hell are you doing?" He said " Checking to see if this still has all its doors, Jim just blowed them off down the road a ways"

I see you are into Archery. I won the National Field Archery Championship at Grayling, MI in 1960. 1400 shooters and I beat them all.

DTT line pressures are very much in line with the other mainstream trans upgrade companies when each trans is set up for the same power level. There is only one way to handle power in the trans, and that is with clutch apply pressure. If the pressure is not there it WILL NOT hold. As far as I know everyone has the same number of clutches and everyone is using the same friction materials.

DTT having higher pressures and/or excessive pressures is not true. This has been proven out several times. It was all semantics in the beginning that started that arguement.

If anything the DTT will hold power at lesser pressures than another trans due to the attention placed on eliminating internal leakage in the trans.

I recommend calling DTT (866) 504-4002 and speaking with Bill K. A DTT transmission is setup specifically for you and your application. The shift points, firmness/aggressiveness of shifts, and stator design can be matched to what you want.

Howard Hill

JSmith... I didn't know John Shulz, But I spent 2 days with Howard Hill at a Bowhunters Festival in Penna. and in 1961 he went from target to target for a day with me while I shot the Nationals in Chrystal Springs AR. I ended up 2nd that year.

don't forget to mention that a tighter converter will shift more harsh too. i prefer mine to shift firm... lets you know that the power's there.

as said before, it can be set up to any shift feel that you like.

JSmith - I don't know what central valley you are in, but if its California, you are more than welcome to drive my '96 with the DTT. My trans has everything DTT had last Sept.

I have the US Gear transmission also, which allows for 4:10 or 3:57 (?) rear gears.

If you really want to test it, I have a 11000 lb 5er to tow.

With two exceptions, I am completely satisfied. One, I had to pay for it (no sponsor) and two, I did not get a free "T" Shirt. I can forgive the lack of a sponsor, and the price was reasonable. I cannot and will not forgive DTT for not giving me a "T" Shirt :{ .

The Transmission shifts great.

JSmith - Sorry to take so long to reply. Been busy.

I went to Canada, great trip. Took the wife on vacation.

If you call DTT, they will tell you who their installers are that are near you.

I am just outside of Sacramento. About three hundred miles from you.

I may be changing jobs in September. If I do, I may not be available on Sats and Suns.
