Posting this for a friend. He says:

"My girlfriend owns a 02 RAM 2500 CTD with 147K miles. She was backing a horse trailer in to her driveway and the truck dumped all the power steering fluid on the road. When I got there I looked under the hood at night with a flashlight and saw the front of the power steering pump soaked with fluid.

So it appears that the pump lost the front seal, and the pump looks to be directly driven off the engine rather than with a belt.

I need to help her with this. Has anyone here replaced the P/S pump on one of these before, and if so how hard is it?"

I can't help him, because I don't know the answer, even though my last truck was a 2002 Dodge CTD 4x4.

I'll cut and paste any replies and send them off to him.

Thanks in advance...

I'll put my 2 cents on the nitrogen canister on the brake hydro-booster blew it's seal. Filling the system with nitrogen and forcing the oil out the top of the power steering pump reservoir. The booster is the can looking thing on the fire wall with the Hydraulic lines running to it. If that's the problem the whole unit on the fire wall has to be replaced. You can't just change out the nitrogen canister.
