a good frind has a 02 when he keys the mic the engine bucke and runs rough until he unkeys he is doing 650watts thats pep

this is not good

I'm swinging 420-440 watts in the '03... only thing I noticed if I'm with in say 40' of my garage at night my flourescent lights in the garage wig out, truck does fine!

Heard of a guy that was running a 1000 or a 1500 watt... in his 12v. He said that he had so much fun with those people that want you to hear their music 3 block away. He told me that when those people were sitting right next to him in traffic. . he could roll the control up on the linear... and key the mic and hold it for a couple of seconds. . and for some reason the car next to him would get quiet:-laf:-laf:-laf. .

I used to run a texas star 1200 out of my 1998 12 valve.

Wasnt a problem, but there arent that many electronics in the 12 vlave. :-laf

I should add, ground the h*** out of everything.

Run heavy wire (i used battery cable) to the amp & radio directly from the battery with a fuse!

I run a Gray 300 and a Galaxy DX-95T2 w/ a thru the roof mount Wilson 1000 in my '02. No troubles. The ECM is shielded from external RF interference.

did you shield the ECM

or does ti come that way

that RF can be nasty

we had a ford explorer that would jump from gear to gear when you key up

it was a 2002 limited the first year they had no transmission dip stick:eek:

Engineers were aware of "stray" RF when they designed electronic controlled engines, although some guys discovered that some re-man alternators were emitting RF frequencies that were confusing the electronic automatic trannies. Go fiqure. But I would think if you are transmitting a "quality" signal from your 2-way radio that isn't bleeding over several frequencies or leaking RF out of the coax or connectors should pose no problems.

Ragain How long have you had the Gray Linear? I have one here I bought

about 25 years a go been siting on the shelf I think I will hook it up.

One h*ll of a Linear.

The best figure to use to know what or how big a external amp you can run is this way... For every 10 watts of amp you will need 1 amp of alternator/charging system/battery storage. So if you talking about a 300 Grey you will need at least 30 amps of added draw above what it takes to run the truck normally. this is why when you go to compete or watch a "key down" competition they have added alternators and batteries to handle the added load. So someone asked if they can run a external amp, sure, just make sure your antenna is properly tuned, radio set up for the amp and you have enough power to run all of the added electrical items.

Now at one time a "Grey" amp was considered to be among the leaders for excellence in execution among the higher power key down crowd, that is not the case anymore. In all the competitions I have attended the leaders today are two companies who specialize in competition amps,X-Force and Dave Made. The amount of audio drive or swing out of those amps are second to no one and are the best amps made today. If you using anything less, your paying money for something that is overrated.

In my truck at work I run a Magnum S-680 and a Dave Made 200 and pass it through a custom built Trik Schitt antenna(an antenna which is built by a friend of mine). The setup is tuned by ohms and not swr's and will talk where it needs to and when it needs to... ... ..... Andy

but i'm not going to go to a key down

but its better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it

I just don't want to screw up my truck with stray rf

pill amps are vary dirty thay splater

OL RATLR... I've had the Gray 300 for around 20 years. I also have a Gray 100 that is a year or two older. I rarely turn it on. They were just a fun toy when I used to drag triples up to Kansas City & back 5 nights a week. It was amazing what just 3 watts can do on a cool winter night when the skip was coming in across the Kansas plains. Heck... . sometimes I thought we could bounce a signal off the moon! Ha-ha.

Hammer you may be right but the linear sold today are misleading

they will call it a 250 and they only put out 185.

Not like that with the Gray. :-{}

Amplifiers at 27 Mhz are a felony. You will go to jail. The fine is $10,000. 00 for each day the equipment is operated. Your equipment will be confiscated. If you are employed you will lose your job. If you think this is a joke and it doesn't happen you are very misinformed. There are people out here who you do not want to meet. The havoc in your life is not worth the risk you take dealing in this type of electronic BS. Explain this risk to your wife before you embark into the CB Hall of Fame.

It is a federal offence to own any such device. The agency who over looks this can push the button on you any time they wish. If you have assets in your life, it becomes even more lucrative for them to do so.

I will not responde to any debate here... I am stating facts.
