can you see your gauges?

The green bulb covers are on all the lamps. I installed several gauges (all same make) and installed green covers on all the (gauge) bulbs. However, not all the gauges are made with the same lense and number of bulbs. Therefore, I now have light green and dark green gauges. Augh!



My next step is removal of all the (green) covers from ALL the interior gauge lamps.



Why is nothing simple?

GL: I had thought of re-installing the diffusers (green covers) for the oil/fuel/batt/temp gauges and leaving the speedo white. Do you mean that if I go to Perry Partsman at Mopar, I may end up with two different color diffusers? kf

No, the problem is with the aftermarket gauges. When I purchased all the same ISSPRO gauge set, you'da thunk that they would all appear the same intensity at night. WRONG!! CRY CRY CRY Didn't work out that way. I tried to paint the bulbs too, but the gauges are simply different. Some even have two bulbs compared to one.

i did something a bit different recently... as i detest green backlighting due to the color and lack of intensity, i pulled out all of the bulb covers and replaced the sockets with the ones to allow replacable bulbs, and put in all red lighting for all dash lights including the hvac panel, and the high beam indicator as it in particular is WAY too bright when illuminated. i also painted the small bulb in the column around the key switch bezel ( using womens nail paint), and as a result... . much better at night, readable and in fact it allows me to turn it down, as before, it was NEVER bright enough... in fact its much better for the long drives, as it is more like the instrument panels in aircraft with the red light not damaging your night vision... cheers d

I got rid of my bulb covers about 5 years ago and have not had to replace instrument bulbs since then. Previously, I was replacing instrument bulbs every two to three years - ugh!



What type of socket and bulb number did you use for the red lights - I like that idea!

I have the same bulb soccets in use on many school buses. I "could " locate a part no. in time.



Fact, I replaced one of my truck soccets with one from a bus.

i used a 194r ( r for red) replacement bulb, i bought em at canadian tire here in canada, but im sure they are available at most auto parts stores. the ones i bought were from the victor products inc. of des plaines il. the full part # was vfc194r

as for the sockets, i had a pile of them littering the shop form various wrecking yard tours. i think i may have used some out if a 90's ford product escort / taurus, but i cant be sure... somewhere along the line some brilliant idiot found out that if you make the bulb and socket non separable, well, its now a dealer item, at 15 bux or so ( or whatever ) rather than a simple bulb replacement, its a major bill... i remember having a 1970 buick wildcat and to change the rear lights you had to drop the bumper... brilliant... . flippin brilliant... . when bean counters and engineers have kids... look out

I've had pretty good luck either painting or using a magic marker to color the bulbs. They don't darken the intensity as much as a cover does.
