"... ..... those admissibleto Canada must not have a criminal record. This includes convictions of driving while intoxicated. "

If I'm reading this right you CAN"T ENTER CANADA. I can see driving - BUT NOT even allowing one to ENTER... . WOW.

I think this goes both ways... ... . impaired driving is a criminal charge north of the 49th as well that never goes away without a pardon... ... and US Customs and Immigration has the right to turn you back at the border for that if they so wish to. Whether they will or not I suppose is up to the individual agent-but it can and does happen-at least this is what I have heard.

Criminal Record

It's the same for us travelling to the US, has been for , many years, we only need a charge against us to be denied entry, not even a conviction. this could be as simple as a speeding ticket. Even if you get charged, and the charge is dropped you also have to get a pardon from our federal gov. to get into the US. Have even heard of case where two guys from work were crossing into Michigan to do a service call and had to turn back and get a transcript from the provincial police to prove that they did not have a criminal record.

About 20 years ago, I went to Canada almost nightly.

Getting into Canada wasnt a problem at all.

Getting back to the US was sometimes pretty scarey.

The fact that I didnt have a drivers license, and both my younger brother and I was usuially pretty intoxicated may be partially the cause. :p:rolleyes:
