Country Great Gone

To F Simkowski

Well, well , we see that I am right on how Americans respond nowadays. First, you Gene. You call me a Socialist. Only in America do scurrilous charges get hurled at someone when you disagree with them. This does not happen in Europe, nor in Britain (and generally not in Canada either). Yep, Gene you are a true American. FYI, I was the liason for the College Republicans when I was an undergraduate (2nd in command within the group), and I was elected to go and work for 3 months in the Reagan Whitehouse as the most academically inclined Republican in my school. As usual you have jumped to conclusions. Frankly if I were you I'd just bow out at this point. With your batting average I would be embarassed to even show myself anymore. And let's give you a history lesson shall we? First, the Nazi gov. did not institute gun control--the nascent Weimar Republic did that (1923 or 1928, I can't remember the exact date anymore). And why? Because the Nazis (i. e. , the Brown Shirts) were running around with guns and intimidating people. Hindenberg had a very unstable regime on his hands and at every twist and turn he underestimated just how determined the Nazi party was. They were under threat of being overthrown by the Nazi Party (yes Gene, the guys WITH the guns, showing that private gun ownership in some cases can prove disasterous) and so they enacted the prohibition. They, sadly, were to afraid of the Party and consequently they did not try to enforce the ban. The rest is history. And what of your inane comments on Britain. Another lesson appears to be in order. First, Britain is the one true ally that we have today. They patrol the no-fly zone in Iraq and vote with us in the UN over 99% of the time. No country has been more true to the US than they. One case in point concerning their grasp of modern scruples over human rights. The US right now covers over half the world with economic sanctions due to human rights violations. The most recent inclusion was due to the BJP party in India (the ruling rightwing Hindu fundamentalist regime) firing off the 'A' bomb. No other nation actually has such a long list of prohibited nations except one--that's right, the UK. Da** those British, standing up for human rights like that! Gene, in 1890 the greatest of all German statesmen, Otto Bismark, was asked what the most momentous factor would be for the 20th Century. He relied, "That the British and the Americans speak the same language. " What he meant by this comment is that Britain and the US would bond together to effect all the world in ways that both countries agreed on. And that way, Gene, was spreading democracy and human rights. When you wrongly surmised that the British laughed at us (wrong in the sense that the entire lot of First World nations wag their head at us and consider us gun totting rednecks who can't not see the forest for the trees on this issue) you castigated our greatest ally, and in terms of the 18th Century!!! Gene, at least come forward to 1812, at least that's progress. Only an American would be so stupid as to lay charges based on events over 200 years ago. What if a person from another country castigated the US based on slavery? We would all say, 'Geez, this is 2001, not the 18th Century, or the first half of the 19th Century. Get real. ' But of course an American can feel quite at ease with applying this ridiculous method on another country--and our best ally at that. Shame on you Gene, your exactly what's wrong with this country. Disagree with an American and you our some sort of Commie basta**d or a oppressive monarchial fool. As for being afraid of taking up your questions nothing could be further from the truth. As I already mentioned you do not even know the basic statistics that we all have to work with when we try to make sense of the trends and so on. When asked to entertain the primary data your response is that the Clinton people have fudged the data!!!! Never is any proof for such an inane charge adduced, just accpted as somehow self-evident to all. My God Gene, the reason that I know longer engage you is that you are so hopelessly behind the learning curve on just the basic facts alone that I can draw up a more cogent defense of gun ownership than you can. I mean, would it kill you too at least get the basic statistics down before you enter into the fray?
Now we enter into the realm of arrogance. Let's see "Canada is a mere principality" (!!!!). That's not an arrogant statement? Let's go to the Great White North and pose that question to the people there and see if they do not judge that as an typically arrogant American statement. Want to bet how many people judge you as arrogant? So you are not arrogant? Only by American standards my friend, only by American standards. I shall add another post in just a minute.

Now for some prognostication. Gun control is coming: bend down and put your ear to the ground; can you hear it? What, you may ask, am I talking about? Women my friends, women. Do you remember the drunk driving campain? Women begged men to do something about it but the guys were quite resistant. Then the women banded together and drove us all into a new era. We saw MADD come into existence and slowly public perceptions changed. Today you are asking for trouble to even get behind the wheel if you have had more than a single beer. Do you folks also remember prohibition, or the doing away of pro slavery sentiment in the North by the Christian women who brough all their force to bear on this issue? Well, it is happening again, this time on gun control (ever heard of the Million Women March?). And I am sorry but you people have only yourselves to blame. No matter how commonsensical the proposed modifications to gun ownership was the NRA opposed it. Slowly the women have banded together and they are determined to bring some sanity on this issue. Frankly you guys have made the same mistake the Fundamentalist made on TeleEvangelism. They refused to police their own and finally all he** broke loose with Swaggart and Baker and so on. It took people who were antithetical to them to rein all the excesses in. They committed a very foolish strategic error, viz. they left their fate in the hands of those who opposed them. You guys are doing the same thing. By being so intransigent and not policing you own, and by refusing to go along with very modest and sensible changes you have caused an enormous groundswell to rise up. And they will not listen to you any longer. Listen carefully boys, a seachange is in the air and you are to blame for it. Want another indicator? Recently I got together with the friends of my youth. Normally we talk about old times, women, and football. We got on to the election one day and all 7 of them had voted for George W. Somehow we drifted into the gun control area and to my utter shock all 7 of them supported very strict gun control laws! This development would have been unheard of in the 1960s, even the 70s. I did not say anything, I was simply flabbergasted by the whole event that was unfolding right before me. I later considered what this might portend and I realized that I was looking at the future (they are all between 38 and 41 in age). Even many Republicans have grown weary of the murders and the manics and are willing to see meaningful legislation enacted. Oh yeah boys, it's coming all right and you guys caused it. You clinged to your position in such an irrationale way that people have turned upon you. The other side would propose very modest changes and time and again the good ol' boy network turned away. Well, these women, combined with men who desire change (including, increasingly, younger Republicans) are quickly becoming the majority in this country. Now finally I must say that I will no longer waste my time engaged in debate on this issue. Had you boys at least undertaken to come to grips with the basic underlying statistics then I might have been willing to keep on going but you guys are exactly the sort that no one should try to engage because you simply will not do your homework. Not to mention you turn quite ugly when challenged. Next time guys, at least come loaded with the proper ammunition (no pun intended).
Cheers
Bill

I still don't know what your stand is on gun-control. Are you trying to save lives? I debated this very subject in college not too long ago. I agree, with hard facts and "doing my homework" I was astonished to find that gun control is not what we need to be concentrating on. The women (all mother's) in the class agreed that their main concern was saving the innocent lives of the children. After I went through some staggering statistics of drownings, playground accidents, etc. they began to see that the amount of deaths related to guns was minute compared to the deaths from other mishaps. For one, I don't want to see everyone live forever, then this country will be as crowded as the UK.
I'm curious, why don't you live in the UK? You mentioned the European condenscending attitude toward America. I know from experience that this is true, but, I also know that Britain has a much worse reputation because of the countries they "took over" do to their arrogance. I too studied history, I know of many "empires" that the British established. They didn't seem to thoughtful of human well-being in those instances, now did they? Americans may be bullies, but we'll never rape people of their own land! Have you served in their military? Studying military history and living it are two different things, see to you, reading and studying is important. To me, living it and seeking to understand others is important.
You are quick to start your posts by pointing out some sort of ingnorance in what others have to say. Don't you agree that true intelligence is weighed by one's ability to accomodate those to whom you speak with? Stop trying to act smart, I can do the same, with a couple of less degrees.

Blah, blah, Gun Control, blah, blah, statistics, blah, blah, Britain, etc.
Jeez, Am, you're as bad as your nemesis, the NRA. Pontificating long and hard with "facts and figures" to back up your point. A little long-winded, are we?

Let me pose a couple of questions: Two nights ago, the power on my little ranch in Texas went out. It's 3:00 am, dark and cold. I have to go outside, leaving my wife's side, to try and determine the cause of the outage. The nearest police station is twenty miles away. Would you, and your politics, have me go outside unarmed? Would you walk outside, in the dark, unarmed?
No more spouting statistics, Ameradian. Your degree from the third best school in England will not help you here. It's dark and dangerous out there. What would you do? Stay inside like a sheep, and await the outcome?

PS: For all you Americans on this forum, I did NOT go unarmed. I had my Smith M28 with me, and my darling bride had her Glock tucked under the covers. We are not sheep.

..... and my last comment on the issue is this: "WE" as in the many members of the NRA have done nothing but oppose the obvious intent of the liberals to disarm us. "WE" caused all those MAGGOTS to go shoot people? No, Bill, it is because the U. S. Government has a SAD SICK HISTORY of NOT PROSECUTING violent offenders. As much as many hate the ATF, they are working overtime adopting State cases for "Felon in Possn of a Firearm" and referring them to U. S. Atty's Offices around the country... . problem is that not all these Klinton appointed lawyers will prosecute the creeps. If this issue was taken seriously by those in power, my money says gun crime would take a nose dive. Only of course, if prison WAS prison, and not a summer camp.

Let's see, almost the whole second page of posts pontificating and all I got from ol' Am was this:
A: Americans are stupid
B: Americans who disagree with me obviously don't have my high education level and are thus, REALLY stupid
C: Europeans are very smart
Yep, after reviewing (it took several tries as I kept falling asleep), I believe that's about all he REALLY said.

I still don't dial "911" but you can throw your college degree at the intruder #ad

Nice tactic, baffle us with ******** !

Not going to happen.
People disagree with me all the time, I don't call them Socialzits.

Only when someone flat out attacks my Constitution, and trys to step on my Freedoms, do they get placed in that category.

4th generation you say? Newbie.

I had Relatives on the Mayflower, and in the Revolution, both sides.
I am here to stay, I like my Country, and will not let Gun Control morons take it.
He who sacrifices Liberty for safety, deserves neither.
Better check your figures on women, you are slightly off.
Why are you here? Do you even have a Dodge?
Still won't answer those questions from the page before, eh?
Take a good look fellas, there is a lot of people out there with his views, and they VOTE. AND THEY VOTE.
It was close this time, it was almost to the point where voteing could NOT get them out.
Never give up, History proves we are in the right.
BTW, My NRA membership is up this month. I may just up it to LIFETIME.
All those degrees, and not one ounce of common sense! Thats a dern shame.

Gene

Let's not forget that the reason I have a right to bear arms is because of the British. Our founding father's wanted to make sure I could defend myself while taking up arms with my countrymen to stand up for our freedom against a tyrannical government. Go ahead and show ignorance by saying that this can't happen. The founding fathers left their country and fought for freedom, and I will not let them down nor let go of my guns.

Dave B. proves that, as usual, Americans do not know what they are talking about.

The arrogence displayed here is exactly why Americans are so disliked overseas.

No, of course not, your an American and by God, Americans just do not need to do that, we are just right by birth. Wow, how blessed I am to be an American!

My God, ignorance just abounds with you guys.

Frankly some of you guys can't even read correctly.

Next, the statement that Canada is not a democracy is so stupid that I can't even dignify that with a response.

Americans are simply too arrogent to even consider that another nation might actually understand democracy better than us, or at least have a tenable, albiet alternative, take on democratic processes.

Well, well , we see that I am right on how Americans respond nowadays.

With your batting average I would be embarassed to even show myself anymore.

Only an American would be so stupid as to lay charges based on events over 200 years ago.

Not to mention you turn quite ugly when challenged.

Wow, who is getting ugly? You are sounding a bit shrill, Cheers Bill. What next, are you going to say something bad about our mothers? We just disagree with you, that's all.

And, get yourself a spell-checker, man. How can you expect to be taken seriously? Your spelling certainly does not reflect well on your third-string University of Edinburgh. I'm sure your former colleagues in the College Republicans would be flabbergasted.

You know, I was thinking about this today. Did you ever notice that once in awhile when there is one of these threads going about gun control or too big a government, some guy shows up with almost no posts to his credit that you've never heard of before. He spouts the government line ver batum and then you never hear from him again? Pop quiz, do you know what a "VA" is? How about a cam plate? What is "bombing"? If you don't know the answer to these questions, get back in your Volvo or POS minivan and go tell the government guys you work for that you did everything they told you to #ad

There's no such thing as coincedence, just plans other people make and don't tell you about.

It is amazing what an Educated Idiot like "Perfesser Cheers" can convince himself of. The trouble is that these guys can vote and can convince weak individuals!

In my experience, they rant long and hard about... (Changing the World, and Being Fair, and It's All For the Children... ) when in reality they come from a place of hatred toward the exact things which have made America great. I hate these Educated Fools!

Oh yeah... I could give a rat's a$$ if Americans are disliked oveseas. They don't dislike our foreign aid money... they seem to like THAT a lot.

Bill, just one question. If America is so bad, and sooo Dangerous!! Then why are you here, and why do literally millions of people try to come here. Both Legally and Illegally??

Rrausch and CCbrady,

You guys speak mountains of truth.

I don't know whre our old "friend"? Cheers Bill went to, but this thread was the only one he ever posted to, kind of fishy, huh?

Guys and gals,

You really should do your homework. It's hard to post when you've been banned from the site.

The man has a valid point. Recently, I simply asked the question "what can we do about the nuts and crack dealers with guns" and I was attacked as a left wing liberal gun control freak. I'm not in favor of gun control for the simple reasons stated about being unarmed in the event of an armed intruder. Right or wrong I'm willing to listen to the man's point of view and respect his right as an American to have an opinion of his own. He is obviously well educated. There's obviously been alot of Rush's influence in the replies to him. I wonder how many copies of Rush's book on how to win an argument with a liberal has been sold?

Although I'm still not ready to hand in my arsonal, I found him to be very interesting and knowledgable. What a shame he was banned for simply presenting his side of a debate. What rule did he break? Misspelled words? We're all guilty of that from time to time. He has a different opinion. I didn't realize that was against the rules of the TDR website.

China must be the safest nation on earth!

Well then, Bill, China must be the safest place on earth. Get caught with a gun there and...

Don't ever be fooled by socialist countries. Britain is enslaving there people and the jack booted "Boobies" are carring automatic weapons now. That would be because gun control works so well, right? And yes, I did say, automatic weapons.

The intent of the Second Amendment was to enumerate our "God given" right to protect ourselves, our property, and ourselves from an oppressive form of government. Just look what happens to unarmed citizens. They become subjects and slaves. Here, let it suffice to bring up Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, et al.

I will leave you with this.

"If ye love wealth greater thatn liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater that the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you; and may prosperity forget that ye were our countrymen. "

-- Samuel Adams

What to do about dangerous "Nuts and Crack Dealers with guns?"

25 Years to Life.

California has the 3-strikes law, and interestingly enough Liberals are now mounting a BIG campaign here to overturn that law because, "It's Not Fair! Sniff Sniff.

I heard parts of an interview with convicted felons in State Prison complaining about the 3-Strikes law and saying when they were released they were going to move to another state where they could practice their vocation without worrying about 25 to Life.

I like the 25yrs to life answer. But why allow it to happen three times. The victim isn't allowed two more shots at it. I believe a murderer, whether he uses a gun or a stone, shouldn't be turned loose any sooner than his victim. Nor should he be given any more accomodations than his victim. Yes, the liberals are to blame for the crime rate being as high as it is. I'm hoping our present administration will change that.

x-ring, If you are a conformist and not an individual, China probably is the safest place to live. I wouldn't last a week there. I don't care for censorship too much. Whatever happened to Bill? Oh, that's right... he was banned. Should we be selective of who is allowed to speak in a free country such as America? No one is being forced to read his words.

Steve,

I DID do my homework, I stumbled across this old thread while searching for other political stuff,

Amaradien WAS NOT banned, he chose not to sign up again after the big switch.

Yes, the three strikes seems to lenient in violent cases. As always Steve, you bring up some good points.

Don't you even wonder a little bit if that guy even had a Dodge??
