Holset Turbo Specs/Applications

47rh

Good Luck

It sounds like a nice setup but the problem was the 53 block and the fact you don't know who or how the transmission was built. If it wasn't a 53 block and the transmission build specifications were known the thing would be worth the $10k you are into it. I am into a re-built low mile 47RH and a 12 valve for less than $4000. You can buy a nearly new motor on Ebay 03 or 05 fully dressed for $4500 buy it now priced. With the 53 block that motor is worth no more than $2500, and the transmission is worth $1500. If however you found who built the transmission and what they have into it I suppose it could be worth upwards of $4000. Good luck.

Well it sounds like you got a pretty good deal on your parts, for ME, this was worth it knowing that it all worked together and I would not have to be scrounging at the last minute trying to find a part or putting it together and finding out something doesn't fit, etc.

I was able to ride in this vehicle, it ran hard and shifted great, for me it was worth it. Like I said before, I have done many different conversions and know what a pain in the rear it is getting everything you need together, it takes a lot of time. This was done !!!

On another note, I feel the "53" blocks are fine if you are not planning on "racing or pulling" and putting out tons of power. If you are looking at a powerful daily driver, I don't see a problem. I did quite a bit of research before I purchased this set up and yes, some of the blocks had problems, but if you look at the number of them produced vs. how many have problems, it is kind of like hitting the lottery, which I haven't yet.

This package is also a little different than just a complete motor you would get off of ebay or a junk yard. This has all of the accessories, all of the fueling components, a wiring harness that is set up to run as it is, just add power. I guess if you have a lot of time on your hands you could definitely do it cheaper, I don't have that much time.

I wish I would have written down all of the info on the trans, I didn't plan on getting rid of it. For me it shifted great and had all of the upgraded internals, (billet converter, 300m shafts, clutches and valve body). It was all I needed.

Anyway... ..... I thought this might be a good deal for someone. If not no biggie !!

Good luck with your project.

I am nearing the end of my little repower project. Thank God, cause I am running out of money, QUICK... Here's what I paid for the MAIN parts:

$3k for a 6BT, 1996 215 HP, 160k miles, running condition, out of a front end collision 2WD 3500. . I took everything I could from the wrecked truck and a few parts from a spare engine in the corner. . I STILL had to go out & buy a belt tensioner, radiator fan, etc. . I re-used the GM AC compressor, had to buy the kickdown cable, the little bracket at the transmission, shift cable, TCC/OD connector, etc. . LOTS of junkyard trips, LOTS of time spent going to the dealer, to NAPA, CarQuest, AutoZone,... ... ... ... ... . LOTS of little "crap". .

$2k Extreme Diesel transmission from PhxRe. . Some folks are reporting horrible experience with them, and I have yet to run mine, BUT - consider the following:

If you walk into a junkyard off the street & ask for a functional, stock 47RH, they'll tell you $900. . If it's smoked, it's worth core - $150. . Get it built with a decent converter & you'll spend $1500+. . If you have a buddy willing to sell you a complete diesel 47RH for $50 - functional or not - you are the exception, not the rule. . !! Go buy a lottery ticket on your way to get the transmission. . :-{}

I agree with JStokes - get the pedigree on the trans & it'll fetch what you want, but for anyone who's considering repower without the benefit of a family owned junkyard or other "connections", your setup is probably worth the $$... ... A lot of folks easily overlook what time and frustration truly cost... (IMHO)

. . oh - AutoWorld's $5k labor for a repower. . ?? well. . yeah - it's worth it. . !! TRUST me... I am WELL into the ~150-200 hr neighborhood, and have not even ironed out the drivability bugs yet. . I've probably spent $200 on beer and Red Bull to boot...

I hope someone else out there benefits from other's hard lessons... :-laf

Good luck... .
