My local Autozone had a ton of MOBIL Delvac 1300 15/40 CI4+ so I bought 9 gallons... That should get me to synthetic time... Went back 2 hours later for something else and they were ALLLLL GONE!!!!

I've got two 5gal containers of the old OLD forumla Rosmella... also got a couple gals of Delvac CI4+

I rack up a lot of miles, so it looks like when this stuff runs out, I'll switch over to Schaeffer's or Rotella Synth

I found a load of Rottela synthetic 5-40w CI-4.

Would it be prudent to run this stuff in my Toyota Tacoma 3rz 4cyl? I'd feel easier about stocking it up if I could run it in my other vehicles.

MJFOL,

There is a long thread on the Diesel Truck Resource.com (DTR) regarding the CJ-4 oil. One of the replys is from a racing/pulling engine builder. Both he & some other builders started having premature cam lobe, lifter & bearing wear problems. It seems that they were using the 'new' CJ-4 & when they switched back to the CI-4+, the problems went away.

The sky is falling.

I wiped the shelves clean at my local Wally World. I notice they've been out for 3 wks or so. The new Rotella T Syn shipment came in and it was still CI-4. Delo is now the CJ stuff. I pulled a chicken little, and I'm good for 100,000 miles... I told suzy it's TDR's fault. :D

not sure why you guys are going off the deep end on the synthetic... a number of manufacturers will continue to make CI-4+ till 2010.

also realize that just because a conventional is CI-4, it's not CI-4+

No one is really "going off the deep end" - and supposedly, at least that's what we were told, there SHOULD already be substantial available supplies of the older CI stuff - but we'd have to be blind to not see how quickly supplies are evaporating. And FEW of us really want to buy it by the tanker load or 55 gallon barrels, which is the only way some suppliers still have it available!

And, if the MAJOR companies have pretty well already discontinued packaging in smaller quantities - and the retail outlets no longer stock it, what will the readily available supply be when only the relatively smaller hole-in-the-wall outfits are still selling it? Will those who still REALLY want it have to mail order it - as most Amsoil customers do? :(

SO, the few of us who have older engines, and really DO prefer the older stuff, will just continue to clear the shelves of what supplies we DO find relatively easily available. It's not a "panic", just getting as much as we can of the stuff we prefer, while we still have a reasonable option! ;):D
