Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Can't figure out turbo silencer ring

OK- I've removed a half dozen silencer rings before, but I cant figure it out on my 2001 HO. I thought I had the same turbo (HX35) as in my older 12 valve, but the silencer ring in my 96 looks NOTHING like what is in th 01. What gives??

I don't know what the 12V silencer ring looks like, but mine is a venturi shaped aluminum disc held in with a snap ring. The gap in the snap ring may be hard to see if it is at the top. I reinstalled mine - too high pitched for my ears. Good luck.

The ring on mine had almost zero space in the gap. Took a very small screw driver and got it started out just fine.

I used two small flat head screw drivers. one to pry the ring out of the groove the other to pry it away from to intake. once I got 20 % of it out I just used my fingers to remove the ring and silencer.
