Tire Wear

Happily purchased 18x8. 5 wheels for my new Ram ('04. 5) which look pretty good, sitting on the garage floor right now :-laf . Didn't realise paucity of tires that will fit them would create a problem. Having previously customized many rides, I was prepared to consider something more than two standard deviations outside of the mean. Well, then I saw one possibility, the Toyo 35-12. 50-18's... These are great tires no doubt, but whoa doggies, way too extreme for me.

I have been trying to find BFG TA KO tires, size 285/65/18's. Anyone know where I can get them? Most places tell me they are back-ordered, and will not be available for several weeks. I am hoping someone has a set laying around that I can take off thier hands..... Thanks in advance for your help!

Nitto makes some in different sizes. Also, check TireRack.com or Discounttire.com or tires1.com

If any of these don't work, let me know and I will look some more.

I've had the Toyo's for about a week now. Awesome tires, and I'm sure they'll be great on my upcoming Baja trip. But as for a daily driver tire, forget it. They're E rated though. Quite a bit of difference in seat of the pants feel. The larger tires really make the gearing feel inadequate. Can't wait to try them in the dirt and in 4x4 mode instead of city and highway.

Shannon, thanks but still no luck. I'm looking for BF Goodrich TA KO's in size 285 x 65 x 18 . I think they are low production due to 18" rim size.

tpuig, I'd like to have a set of those Toyos you have, but I don't go off road often enough to justify $1300. 00 expense. I was also concerned about bump steer, hydroplaning, and tire noise. My biggest concern however, was just what you mentioned, that the size of the Toyos changes the performance (speed & quickness) of the truck. I really enjoy accelerating from stop lights and usually drive a little faster than some, so I would miss this if tire size was too much larger than stock.

Tdecosta, I stumbled upon the tires you are looking for.

BFG-95290 Tire, Radial All Terrain T/A KO, LT285 /65R18, 32. 8 inch Diameter 9/9 $229. 95

This is from Summitracing.com

They say they will ship on 9/9

Hope it helps.

i would never go above a 17 just for that same reason

hmm... and i want to go 20's :D:-laf. if i could just find a wheel that fit right, in the 20x9 or 20x10 size, then go with a 305/55/20 nitto or toyo a/t, or 325/50/20's in again, nitto's or toyo's sport truck tires...

Shannon,

Thanks again. I put in an order at Summit for the BFG's. Their expected delivery date has already changed to 9/12. The way things are going I won't be suprised to see this move closer to October. I installed a leveling kit this weekend (Revtek), and the Weld EVO's will go on as soon as the tires arrive. This wheel/tire combo should only raise the truck another 3/4", providing a custom appearance while still maintaining a low COG.
