We just completed the install on a replacement CTD in my 04 Dualie, and it LOOKS good

Except we cant get it started, and I know the problem, do you know the solution??

The fuel pump relay, near the drivers firewall under the hood is unplugged and three of us just spent an hour or so trying to locate what it gets plugged into, and we just cant find anything

The + in is intact, and the 2 wires heading back to the tank are there and connected. We just cant find where the relay gets its signal from, There's a two wire plug coming off the relay base, about 20 inches long so it can reach an arc from the fuse panel around to the engine.

There's a plug on a wire pair that looks like it would fit, but its connected to a cylindrical device attached to the rear of the fuel filter canister, where the fuel line from the tank is attached. If thats the plug to the relay, what goes into that hole

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like your replacement engine still has the original fuel pump installed but the engine you pulled did not.Remove the pump on the filter housing replacing it with the fitting from the take out engine.plug the wiring you found and you should be ok

umm, that makes sense. actually the 'pump' was on the take out engine and the installer moved it over to the replacement. I guess the lift pump was installed in the tank, but the original pump was never removed and fuel has just been pumping thru the unplugged pump. for at least the last 300k miles, as long as i've had it, at least. it doesnt seem like there would be a clear path thru a pump, but it has been working. Hopefully I can find the fitting from the replacement engine and reinstall it. Alldata has drawings of the fitting in place, but none of the pump in place, (why it was such a mystery)

Thanks for replying, now its gonna be a pain to get the pump off and replaced, If I can find the fitting...

well, i tried to take the easy way out and just connect the pressure fuel line to the unplugged fuel pump, but I cant get any fuel thru it. its amazing that i got 5 years of service with it plumbed wrong, and nothing now.

renewed my search for the tube and banjo bolts....
