My truck started idling really rough and apox 150 rpm less the other day. I thought it was my fuel but after a new fillup it didn't change.

It runs great above 1200 rpm but rather rough below.

Im trying to get the overflow valve out now and can't,, the intake mainafold seems to be in the way.

any help would be greatly appreciated

overflow valve

p-38'

take a file and file a little on one of the flat edges on the valve(shoulder), or file a little on the intake manifold where it makes contact. or use a dremel tool with a grinder it does'nt take much. just don't loose that bottom washer. take a precaution here, fill the gap below with some thing.

you can also do a search on here for other suggestions.

Thank you MLee

I used a dremel tool and slightly ground down the manifold. the rag was a huge tip, I dropped everything trying to get it out but there it sat on the rag easy for my needle nose pliers to grab.

The spring measured . 46" so I stretched it to 5. 5 reasembled but with absolutly no improvement to my idle.

Anyone have any other suggestions.

btw. I have check all my injectors for a possible slight leak but everything seems to be tight.

Streching the spring may work for a little while and it may not. If it is already a little older, chances are it won't hold it's tension very long.

I'm will Illflem, you might want to change the fuel filter too.

P-38,

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If not, now is the time to get one. If the pressure is ok, the overflow valve spring stretch won't help. If the pressure is ok, I think I would check to see if one of the injectors is not working like it should. Be careful so you don't get a skin injection of fuel. Loosen each injector line. If the idle doesn't change for an injector when you do that, the injector is questionable.

Will fuel spray everywhere making a big mess? Or, will it just kinda leak a little out on the head?

Thanks, John
