Man! Like Tugboat was right... ... ... . the aftermarket manufacturers don't realize Dodge made trucks prior to 1994:mad:

Checking around and can't seem to fine any.

Someone got an idea?

I know that they make them or at least they used to. My father in law had one on his '93 W250. So there should be some still around.

Never did like the looks of those things anyway- but to each his own.

I had one on my first truck(an 88 D150 RCSB V6). It was Lund unit and I loved the look of it. I would guess that one from an 88 would be the same as any diesel vintage truck aside from maybe the clearence lights that so many of the diesels have(mine doesn't).

I also had one of the lighted units from Lund on my 96 Dakota. I liked that one as well but didn't care for the lights burning out alot. Also I didn't like the extra hole that needed to drilled for the wiring. I was always worried it would leak. It never did but I was concerned.

I bought my lund visor several years ago from JC Whitney. Part # for ext. cab is different than the one for regular cab.

Scott, I remember reading somewhere, the visor was causing disturbance, turbulance?, can't remember if it made it vibrate, maybe the wipers wouldnt work real good with the air disturbance?? I dont know maybe someone can chime in... maybe, just maybe, I read in Old Smokey's RR's about his visor. . ??? Bill

Greenleaf try www.parts.com

I just ordered a fender molding that was hard to locate, have'nt got it yet, so I don't know the quality... good luck. I enjoy reading and appliying the stuff I learn on your posts. Patrick.

I don't know if I can post this here, but I've got a Lund unit with the clearance lights for sale. It's in good shape, and all the lights work. Can get a picture if you like.

Moderators - If I'm out of line posting this here (as it certainly approaches classifieds material) then please delete it.

Thanks

I have the Lund visor, and it does affect the wipers some, but mainly the washer nozzels don't do anything at highway speeds. Occasionally in high winds with the wipers on, the left one (driver's side) catches something under the visor and sticks there for a second until the downforce of the wiper motor pulls it free. Sort of annoying, but as long as you don't mind not having washers at highway speed, you should be fine.

sunvisor

Greenleaf, I have had a Lund sunvisor with the marker lights on my "93" CTD for around 6 years now. I have the extended cab. It has held up well. There are short comings in all things as far as I am concerned. Beauty or ugly is what the individual is perceivable of. I have not had to use the wipers in the wind much, so I cannot comment on this. Even before the visor installation, high winds did effect the wiper operation somewhat. The plus factor is that it does shut out the sun a lot. The minus is at intersections with high signal lites, one has to peek under to see the high mounted lites sometimes.

If the sunvisor is mounted by a good body shop of which mine was, there is little problems. I did have neophrene rubber washers mounted between the sheet metal screw hold downs & the roof & visor of which I made up. The body shop commented on this as a resistence to loosening & leakage. The hole that is drilled under the visor mounting to excess the wiring is of little problem of leakage if sealed correctly. The source of the wiring connection was just under the windshield column under the dash on the driver's side. In over six years of operation this has not come loose even with high winds. In excessive winds there is slight vibration. My Wife & I think the overall appearance is eye catching. Just a matter of opinion here. For near 10 years now we have traveled to Lake Mead NV. via Mojave Ca. to Barstow where we at times have encountered some pretty high winds.

Lund makes good products. I might add as up to now we still have the original light bulbs in the visor.

As we pull a fifth wheel trailer, this is practical to be seen at night.

The one ( Lund ) that is on my truck was put on by the man I bought it from . He had it put on when he bought the truck new . He did not put it on himself but had the place where he bought it ( visor ) put it on . He told me they also put some sort of glue on it where it meets the body and if I ever want to take it off I would have to get a piano string and cut between the body and the visor . Oh it looks good up there and it does help a lot on the sun on the dash thing but I don't like drilling holes in the roof .

Thank-you all for you'r replies! Very helpful indeed. I have learned a great deal from the previous posts.

I now know that I need a visor w/out lights and one for an extended cab. Also, I have cab lights and need to know if they will prevent me from mounting the sun visor. Whew!!! It's get'n complicated real fast.

Wife said don't put one on. She may be right.

Thanks again guys

Scott,

Mine was with the truck, so I don't know who made it. It doesn't interfere with my clearance lights. However, like previously mentioned, I had my left wiper hang up on it once. I got a new pair that was an inch shorter and haven't had a problem.

I got your email. Will respond tonight.

Its just another place for rust to start . If you get the Lund it will fit fine . It is made to fit around the clearance lights .

If you use some primer paint in the hole first, them put a good dob of RTV silicone, that shouldn't be a problem. That is what I do.

I have been told by more than one person not to use RTV on a auto body cause it will cause rust . I have a friend that has been a body man all of his life ( he is in his fifties ) and he has told me the same . If he ever saw me use RTV on a auto body he would b!+ch slap me so hard all my unborn children would come out well behaved !!!!!!!
