I've got a 2008 with the [REC] nav system [an Alpine unit], and when I'm entering information during the day it's almost impossible to identify the high-lighted character so that I know what I'm entering.

It's not a case of adjusting the contrast intensity, it's a problem of being able to differentiate the selected character from the one next to it... or any other one for that matter.

Since the unit has color screen capability, I can't understand how this could have passed the approval process with such a significant design flaw.

When I went back to ask the dealer about not being able to see the screen, they saw what I was talking about, but had no solution... . and apparantly since Dodge quit using the Alpine system in mid-to-late Jan. 08, Alpine has no more interest in trying to work with users of that system to correct any problems.

Hopefully, I'm just doing something wrong or haven't adjusted something correctly, but if that's the case, I don't know what I've done wrong.

Has anyone out there got a resolution to this problem or am I the only one that can't see what I'm doing?

I have 2 REC units and don't have the problem with either. Sounds like you have a bad screen (LCD) Has it always been this way? I guess software could be a problem. What disk are you using? (AD, AE, AF, AG shows on the dvd). Maybe an upgrade would correct the problem, but I'm guessing the screen.

My DVD is designated AE... . probably not the latest, but for $120-ish for a new one, I have opted not to be up-to-date.

My screen has always been like I've described. I never thought that my screen might be the problem..... thanks for the insight.

I have no color control, and the highlighted color/letter selection is almost indistinguishable from the one next to it and it drives me up a wall when I try to enter data during the day... . particularly if it's sunny. Nighttime is no piece of cake either, but it is better than during the day.

I would love to see a color photo of your screen during the data entry process to compare it with what I'm seeing.

Maybe I need to take a ride down to my friendly Dodge dealer and see if he has a truck with a REC unit in it for comparason.

You say that it is not a contrast issue, so I assume that you have tried the different Brightness settings (Automatic, Manual-Day, and Manual-night). My wife's Chrysler seems brighter to me than my Ram, but it is still readable. I am in west Tennessee. I'll try to get you a picture and either post it,if I can figure out how or PM it to you.

Bob- If you get a good photo, send it to -- email address removed --.

I guess maybe I didn't accufately describe the contrast/color issue... .

The highlighted number/letter is marginally highlighted in comparason to the adjoining letters/numbers, and there is NO color differentiation between highlighted and un-highlighted items.

I just can't make-out what letter or number I'm selecting and it's almost worthless.

I tried diddling with the palet/intensity adjustment, but the one time that I did that it was daytime, and I screwed it up so badly that I had to wait until it was dark to reset it and get it so that I could even read anything during the day.

BTW, I'm in AZ

OK, here goes. In the photos, I have begun to input a street name (Austin) The letter B is highlighted (selected) and available. It has a yellowish background color, best seen in the second photo. C,D,G,K,L,N,Q,R,S,T,& X are also available to choose for the next letter. All others not available. I'll email you the originals in case the posted images aren't good enough.
