I know what you mean Joe. Although, if someone makes a post that lives outside of the US, then I try to ingnore the poor grammar. Some are still learning.

I have an aunt that some how passed the exams to become a teacher. I'll put it to you this way, she paased with an "A" in her english course. He grammar and spelling are so bad, that she's embarrased her kids. Enough so, that they now take care of the family Christmas letter. Also, she STILL can't figure out how to do the math to come up with her vehicle mileage. She is only a sub teacher. No one will hire her for a full time job. I have cousins from the other side of the family, and she is the teacher from hell. Not surprised though, I don't like her either.

I have noticed that someone from outside the US almost always tries hard to make the post understandable. Their syntax may get a little tangled up, but I have had no problems figureing out the question.

I didn't know my old high school history teacher was still harrasing students. :D

:-laf :-laf I know that wouldn't be her. She would've been in grade school yet, when you were in HS. ;) My 1st grade teacher was like hat, too. Real B.

And that is why all of the alternative forums popping up are doing so well. I personally come here for advice and help on DODGE RAM subjects, not to be scolded like I am taking a third grade spelling test. If you want to correct people on spelling and grammar go become a teacher. This forum is quickly becoming an assembly of pompous a**ses that turn more people away than it welcomes. I for one try to spell correctly, but it really bothers me to see others just looking for some help ostracized for their grammar and spelling. No one wins in that situation.

I dunno, I haven't been on one of the others that are so good. I go once in a while but get tired of the goofing off with dialog that has nothing to do with Diesel, Pickups, Trucks, Physics, Thermodynamics, and anything else that has beneficial knowledge.

I think y'all are too sensitive! Give some slack. Sometimes posts are a little "snotty" (can't think of a better word) but what the heck we gotta get tough skins and most of the time the writer doesn't really mean any personal harm to anyone.

I'm 68 thats give me the riight to "preach",, sorry.

While were on the topic of correct spelling, has anyone else noticed how poor the spell check function is? Words that are almost correctly spelled are caught by the checker, but no suggestions are made. I typically type out my post on "word" and paste it in after checking it for mistakes.

Very good point to bring up!.

The TDR spell check function runs off a database of words pre-programmed by vBulletin. Some words were entered upon it's initial upload by Steve, but he can't enter all of the millions of words we'll use here that vBulletin left out.

If a word comes up that you know is spelled correctly that the spell check tags but doesn't offer suggestions for, it's because the word isn't in the database yet. When that happens please click on the "LEARN" button and the word will be stored and referenced later on.

If a word that you know is probably mis-spelled is flagged but no suggestions are offered, it's because the spell check software has no idea what the word is, or should be, and is basically confused. It isn't perfect but it tries. ;)

Case in point, I just spell-checked this post and it flagged TDR, FYI, and vBulletin..... so by clicking on the "LEARN" button those word/acronyms are now recognized for later acceptance and reference for everyone. :-laf

Cummins was a word that tripped the spell checker at one time, too. :D

What da?

Vaughn, I didn't know you had a lock on the typing style you use? I just thought you liked to see your words Biiiiiiiiiiiig. :-laf

Now Muddy's problem is, he is from the deep south valleys on the Oregon and Idaho border kind of like the movie "deliverance" ta da da da tada.

"spookey".

I know I'll get slammed, but it takes so little time to read your post before clicking on the 'submit reply' button to check your spelling and - within reason - punctuation.

Out in my back yard shop, I have a 1936 Hudson Terraplane that I'm slowly turning into a resto-rod. Except for editing the phone number, the following is an actual e-bay post from a guy who had several parts for a Hudson like mine, but I refused to bid on any of them because of his ads. Mistakes are one thing, but this is just simple laziness:

" here is a1936 terraplane hood complety seperated wood make great pattern for someone who doesn't have one rusty but straight sold as isfor pattren . mine is a better one any questions cotact seller 719 XXX XXXX 115. 00 shipping over seas extra thank you "

Other examples we see frequently:

'were' does not mean 'where', 'wood' does not mean 'would', 'hear' does not mean 'here', and 'prolly' does not mean 'probably'.

I'm not coming down on anyone, but please take the time to proof-read what you've written/typed before posting it. Otherwise you are showing your very poor spelling and grammar skills and you are only embarrassing yourself in front of everyone else.

I only have a high-school education - no college other than a couple of courses - but I can still read and write correctly, most of the time.

Flame suit on... ... ... ... .

OK, I'll bite.

I am a product of a private school education, a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and a child of a family with two bachelor's degrees, three master's degrees, and two doctorate degree's. My older brother (the English major) sends back letters marked up with red ink. I don't write him letters anymore! I know what it feels like to be harrassed about my grammar and spelling!

I think Vaughan was simply asking a simple question so he could better understand why some posts had all the initial letters in each word capitalized. We have gotten way off track, but nonetheless, some important "feelings" have surfaced.

I am not a good typist. It doesn't help that I have lost much of the feeling in my left hand (if I had known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself... ). I have a "Crackberry" and believe me, they suck to type on. But I am learning to adapt.

This is, by the way, an internet forum. It is a place to freely and casually share information as well as trade stories. If I knew everything there was to know about diesels and Dodges, I'd probably be running my own site by now. But, I don't, and as such, I subscribe to numerous forums trying to glean as much good information as I can from the sea of rants and put-downs as I can. There are a lot of good people here, and most of them have something to share. We should encourage one another to share our successes and failures. I will probably learn more about my truck from the people who try (and sometimes fail) to post their ideas than from all the people who sit on high and point fingers at those who "aren't as good as I am".

Lighten up. I'll be the first to admit that I have done it. If you have been the recipient of one of my "barbs", I apologize. I realize some are doing it not because they don't know how to write, but just didn't take the time to write correctly. They'll see it if they look at their postings later. If not, then they'll have to deal with it on their own. I wish everyone had a decent command of the english language. But not everyone does.

Back to my original point - by pointing out everyone's flaws without an understanding of their causes, they'll ed up just like I did with my brother. They'll stop writing down their thoughts and you and I will lose their experience and knowledge forever. God knows (and I hope) that someone may have learned something from me!

Not a chance I want to take. I've learned too much from people with much less education than I have, and it's been worth every struggle I may have had to learn and understand.

Rambling thoughts from an old guy (who "ain't" so old). OK, I'll take my own advice and "lighten up".

OK, back to paying those bills...
