GTX,seems like we have a difference in wiring here. My '95 doesn't have the door timer circuit which must switch things around some. Sounds like with your setup you may have to disconect the cargo light wire from the head light switch and put it on it's own switch.

I think I will put a toggle switch to open the dome lite circuit when the dimmer dial is rotated up. That should also allow me to turn the dome lite on/off when ever needed.

I think the door timer, interior light delay, is present on the models with factory keyless entry.

Maybe I'm wrong. In any case, as illflem said the wiring is a bit different.

I put a toggle switch on the Yellow wire and now I can open the dome lite circuit to turn it off whenever I want. Now I just need to hide another switch.

I do have the keyless entry feature.

Big-D,
Pulled out the headlite switch and did it there. There is only about 2 inches of wire to work with. I have not looked to see if the yellow wire runs up the left A pillar. If it does then you could put the switch there and mount it in the A pillar gauge mount if you have one. That is where I am going to put my switch. Since I already cut wires behind the headlite switch I won't cut the yellow again if it does go up the A pillar, just have longer wire to the toggle switch.

did mine last week

Same frustration. Smiple fix.

Get to your headlamp switch. On the back side are 8 wires on a Primary circuit and 2 wires on a Seconday circuit.

Switch places with the Pink with Blue stripe on the Primary side with the Yellow on the Secondary side.

DONE.

I actually pulled the metal connectors from the switch and dammaged them enough that I had to repalce one of them. illflem has a good idea... just cut the wires up stream a little and switch places - much easier than pissin' around trying to get the metal ends out of the switch.

Dome light will STILL come on when the doors open - as they should.

First click to the left with the pull-lever will now be Cargo. Second click will now be Dome.

GREAT FIX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anybody know if this fix is the same on a '01?

Hi Rob,

I haven't had a look at an '01 model. Getting to the switch is a quick 10 min job. Take a minute and look at the back of your switch. I can't imagine that they would have switched things around that much. If there's a pink with blue on the lower right primary (the side with 8 wires) and a yellow in the secondary (side with 2 wires) I'd wager a 99% chance that they will work the same. If you splice an inch above the switch you should have plenty of room to switch things back to original if, by chance, it doesn't work.

If the wrong wires were crossed they may not work right, but shouldn't dammage anything.

Keep us posted...

Well,

I tried that, I switched the 2 wires, didn't work.

My '01 has alot more wires on the back of the switch than yours, when I swiched the wires, the dome lights wouldn't come on when the door was opened, however the cargo light was on ALL the time, 'till I rotated the dial all the way to the off position, and then ofcourse no dash lights. DOH!!!

I then started takin' my interior apart, some of the wires to the interior lights went up the pillar, and some went along the rocker panel. The 2 map lights and all the overhead comp. wires went up the pillar, and the center dome light, high brake light, and cargo light went the other route.

Then I got the cutters out:eek: ,long story short, still can't get it to work. I went as far as takin' the headlight switch apart, 'ya know, those are'nt supposed to come apart.

Oh well, maybee someone else can figure it out.

I put a relay in (duct taped it to the wires behind the switch) to shut off the interior lights when the switch is rotated to the cargo light position. When you turn on the cargo lights, the circuit energizes the coil in the relay. The interior light wire is run through the normally-closed side of the relay. When the cargo lights are turned on and the coil energizes, the circuit is opened for the interior lights, shutting them off.

A little more involved, but it may be an approach to solve the problems on the newer models. Mine's an '98 12-valve.

jk,

Gimmie a wrench, I can fix it, gimmie a relay I'm blind:rolleyes:

Maybee I can get Greg (LSfarm), to do this fer me, I'll see him this weekend, Thanks
