Tire information videos

I'm a new member of TDR, and a soon to be owner of a new 2004. 5 Red RAM 4x4 SLT 48RE Quad Cab SRW 3500. Called Dodge today, and it 's in transit, scheduled for dealer delivery in three weeks. I Can't Wait!

I've searched the TDR, but haven't found an answer to the question:

What's the heaviest camper I'll be able to (legally) carry in my new truck?

When I ordered, the dealer pulled out a thick binder with all kinds of information, and I copied the camper section. According to that, a Ram 3500 4x4 Quad cab short wheelbase SLT with the diesel has a GVWR of 9900lb and a CWR (Cargo Weight Rating) of 1053lb.

A similar document I found in my TDR search (http://www.klenger.net/dodge/3rd-ge...-ram-towing.pdf)

shows a gvwr of 9900lb, but a payload of 3020lb

Which is correct?

I would recommend weighing your truck with you, full tank of fuel, dog, wife, girlfriend (probably better not at the same time) and then subtract that number from 9900. That'll give you the available payload. Good luck. John

Ken Lenger's info is probably closer to being correct although it probably does not include options, dogs and girl friends. Once you subtract those you should be pretty close. My guess is that you should have around 2500 pounds of payload before exceeding the GVWR of 9900 pounds. Good luck

GVWR - LCW (laden curb weight) = payload capacity

LCW is an actual scale weight of the truck with options, accessories, fuel, driver, passengers, cargo (less payload), etc. just like you'll be heading down the road.

Basic guestimate of your real truck weight is going to be 7400 pounds mine is a long bed 4x2 and it is 7300 with fuel. so about 150 pounds less for short box then 250 pounds more for the 4x4 system
