Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Carnage - checked your air filter lately?

These are photos of a truck that came in at work.

Complaint - "My brakes are sticking, truck is slow because of it. "



We looked at the brakes, and sure enough, they were in pretty sorry shape. We performed the needed repairs and took the vehicle for a test drive. The truck rolled fine, but would not get out of it's own way. Pulled the air filter when it got back, and low and behold, WOW!



Second pic is the turbo, which is trashed. Fins are dusted pretty bad (dirt does the turbo no good) and there is endplay.



Engine compression and leakage test was still acceptable.

What an idiot! That owner needs shot right now! Tell him to give his ctd(if he knows what that means) to someone that deserves it and buy a Dookiemax or a Powerjoke, he'll fit right in.

You might not want to be too hard on the guy. I take meticulous care of my truck 'cause it has to work for a living. Was doing routine maintainance and found my stock filter in pretty much the same shape, they are quite easy to fubar. A bhaf has cured this problem very nicely.
