rear axle wouldn't break the front axle drop box. but you might have the right idea just wrong end. Is the front driveshaft custom or a stocker? The pop wouldn't have been too bad compared to the racket it made until the truck stopped! You can see where the case was beating on the floor of the cab!

The cross member looks clean. High centered and caught it on a rock on the way over?

Electronic 4x shifter didn't fully engage before he gunned it?

Phil's truck and you were driving for the photo shoot...

I have seen something similar. It happens rock crawling in 4WD (usually 4 low). Occasionally, you have to give larger vehicles some encouragement with the right pedal to get over rocks. If the rig gets traction, but cannot get over the obstruction it will start to hop. This kind of resembles a low rider with hydraulics bouncing on the pavement except that rocks are not as forgiving. I have seen driveshafts come apart, axles break, axle housings break not to mention transmissions and any other part of the drivetrain.

Am I close?

So, this is going to kill me now, not knowing for sure.

My other two guesses would be a 4WD launch or someone hitting the electronic shifter(maybe to 4WD low) while the truck was moving too fast.
