Well after sitting for the past 3 months I finally tore it down,Not good but not to bad really! It took out #1 piston and 1 exhaust valve. The piston is still whole but the edges are melted and it put some material on the cylinder wall. The valve is missing a small piece out of the corner. Got to pull the turbo and check it out. Oh well guess it is time for fire rings and studs after I replace the piston and valves.

holy EGT's!!!!!! put a 3000* pyro on it next time so you can tell us just how hot it really was! :D

awesome carnage, I've NEVER seen a piston like that before!!!!!!

Well we were headed out of town with the boat and all the camping junk and everything was going fine, cruising up I5 at about 65 mph and all of a sudden it starts popping and pinging pull to the side and it has a miss!Limp it to a hotel and get it on a flatbed and head back home. The wife and kids stayed with the boat and junk. Got the 01 and went back up to finish up the vacation. Next morning went to hook up the boat and it would not start!Lost the lift pump. Talk about bad luck, but it did not end there! When the boat was docked at the lake some kids threw rocks all over the boat and chipped the gelcoat all over! :mad:I should have stayed home!!Anyway it was an injector that stuck open and did the melt down!EGT's never got over 1150.

traditionally we've put the pyro on the back cylinders because #6 us usually your "hottest" cylinder, but all that gets thrown out the window if you've got an injector hanging open :(

I've always wanted to do a probe on eacy cyl, but time/money/etc. Would be nice to have a setup that at least had two probes (one for front/rear cyls) that would display whichever has the highest numbers.

WOW, can you say WHY the injector stayed open?????

Eric = '03 swb srw qc 6spd limited 305/555 4x4 white still stock... some mopar

Don't know why but there has been a few that have had this problem. I am adding a 2nd fuel filter to it also before it goes back on the road.

Ya know my kid and myself were looking at the gasket today and it looks like a pretty good construction for a factory piece! The kid was saying a lot of the race(gas)guys are starting to run this type of gasket rather than the copper ones. There was no sign that the heat from the melt down did any damage to the gasket. I'm going to check into it this week a little farther while finding the parts.

the MLS gasket will hold a lot as long as drug use is limited. On #2 it will last at 60-65 psi easily as long as drive pressures are kept in check. Not too mention they are available over the counter and require no special machining. Just make sure the block and head are prepped properly and flat.

Any idea why the injector stuck open? Was it due to particulates in the fuel or an ecm/wiring problem? I ask because i'm going through a similar situation right now.
