Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Carpet wet on drivers side

As wierd as this seems,



I got into my truck today and the floor on the drivers side is soaked. I can't figure out how this happened as the carpet going up under the brake and gas pedal is dry as a bone. I'm not sure where the heater core is on this truck, but thought I should ask if there is anything I should be looking out for??



I think I'll be mystified for a while as to how this happened

Weather strip

Check your door weather strip carefully. I had the same problem develop some time ago, water ran along the outside of the weather strip and down along the front just like it supposed to. However the weather strip was not contacting the front of the door properly about a foot or so over the door sill. The water then ran under the weather strip and along the inside until it got to the bottom. When enough water collected inside the weather strip at the bottom of the door, it ran over the door sill edge and under the carpeting. I placed a thin piece of self adhesive foam behind the weather strip to increase its contact with the door to fix the leak. No problem since. Of course there may be other places where water enters too, but this is easy to check.



Take a look at the contact. I cleaned off the door and the weatherstrip. I applied chaulk to the weatherstrip and closed the door. When I opened the door I could see where the weather strip was contacting the door properly. You may need to replace the entire weatherstrip at this point as the truck is 7 years old. Good luck. Believe it or not, the most likely culpret is the gasket for the third brake/cargo light above the rear window. It leaks and the water runs around the back window. The rear seat is on a raised place in the floor so the carpet back there does not get wet. The raised place in the floor forms two rain gutters so the water runs to the front and soaks the floor mat. Mine did that exact thing. The good part about it is that the gasket is cheap and is easy to replace. It's kind of flimsey so you have to be careful and clean the surfaces well.

Second Joe's advice. Since the light is only held on by two screws it will sometimes warp up in the middle and the new seal won't do it, you need to break out the silicone.

I used RV strip caulk on mine but it has not rained in so long I can't see if it's cured or not.

My 96 had an inch of water on the passenger side during a bad rain and no sign of wet carpet anywhere else and it was the 3rd brake light that was leaking, I also used RV putty tape on mine and it worked great.

Many many guys here have had that same leaky light.

My 95 leaked thru both top corners of the rear window and ran down the inside channel to the front sides of the door. Silicone does wonders.

Had the same problem with my 96. Called a glass company who came to my office, took out the back glass and re-installed it. Has not leaked in 6 months.

RTV putty tape? cause i couldn't neither at the local auto parts store. if it's RV then i guess i'll have to go to an RV shop?

I used 1/4 inch foam weatherstripping with the adhesive on one side. Its flexible enough to curve arround the edges and fills a pretty good gap. The local hardwares usually have it.

It's RV tape. I have had mine for some time now. When I bought it, it came in about a 1" wide roll in both caulk or butyl rubber form.

Thats wild,I had the same problem on my 94 on

the drivers floor. I never could find where it came

from then one day it stopped. Guess I'll have to check

out those three areas you mentioned.
