Just wondering has anyone ever put new moulded carpet over the original factory carpet for maybe a little more insulation? Work or not?1990 D250

You probably could on a 1st gen but normally old carpet has a smell to it that is good to get out of the cab. I put new carpeting in my 1992 last year with the mast backing and really like it. It is quieter and made the truck smell good and much less heat coming through the floorboard. I used ACC carpet and it was molded pretty well for the floor. Good luck!

I would look at installing some sound suppression material instead of placing carpet on top of the old carpet. There are several different brands of sound suppression material in the marketplace including Amazon which sells this material also. You can than apply your new carpet on top of the sound suppression material.

just my $0.02

I run a Dynamat style deadener, and then new factory style molded carpet. Works well together. Have many trucks done this way.

I ended up using 1/2" jute from headliner thru floors. Got it new from a home remodel that over ordered. Still have to put the door and kick panels back on. Test drive even unfinished way quieter. Pics to come shortly. Still looking for hopefully an NOS set of gray floor mat with the ram on it.
