I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Extended Cab, 8' bed, 5.9 Cummins, 5spd, 2 wheel drive which I bought new. A year ago, the wife made me sell our 5th wheel, and I now want to remove the Gear Vendors transmission. When Gear Vendors installed it, the carrier bearing was removed and a single drive shaft was installed. My problem is that the local shop hasn't had any luck in finding the carrier bearing bracket in order to put this back to stock. To my knowledge this bracket is no longer available thru Dodge. I'm not sure they even have the right part number. If anyone could help me find the correct part number or locate a used bracket, I would sure be grateful. I wouldn't mind taking the whole drive line as long as it has the mounting bracket for the carrier bearing. Mike Nicholson, Sequim, WA. The VIN is 3B7MC33C7TM161026

Are there any u-pull-it yards near you? Any extended cab long bed should have one, I'm sure it isn't a highly sought after part. Eyeballing it you need a 14mm deepwell, maybe a 15. I didn't check the bolt head size.

Are you going to sell the Gear Vendors unit? If so, you may be able to swap the drive shaft with the buyer.

GAmes - There are not many. The shop that is to do the work has checked as far as Montana. In fact, the Montana fellow checked and sent one over here, but it turned out to be for a newer truck.
I'm just not sure the shop here has the right part number and what years use that part. I'm keeping my eyes out for a 95 thru 97 so I can ask them if I can climb under their truck and look at it.

BigPapa, The Gear Vendors has some problems. I'll be happy to just find someone I can give it to. Thanks for your replies, Mike

GAames - We don't have much any where near by. Did get one sent over by a Montana junk yard; turned out to be for a newer truck. I need to verify what the actual part number is. The drawing my shop here has of the bracket we need, just doesn't look right to me. I stopped earlier this week and the lady that handles parts there couldn't find the part number she has been using. If I see a 95 thru 97 truck here, I'm going to ask to climb under it so I can see the bracket. By-the-way, I see you have a 97. Any way you could send me a photo?

Scott, The Gear Vendors has some problems.. That was the reason I decided to just get rid of it. Appreciate your replies, Mike

You don't need many, you only need one. I wouldn't be surprised if a club cab long bed 1500 doesn't use the same bracket. It is 8 1/2 inches long and 5 1/4 wide, measured to the outside of the upper bends. The tapered side is next to the fuel tank.

GAmes - Thank you, at least I know what it looks like now. I would think between the Seattle/Tacoma and Portland areas I should be able to find a truck like mine that still has the drive train on. Then I can just go there and get it. Mike
