Hello everyone, just thought I would share my recent experience with my rear driveshaft. Truck was making horrible noise/vibration and I could smell burning rubber. I had a heavy load in the bed and was pulling 3 cord of wood in a trailer.
The slip yoke between the front and rear driveshaft failed to "slip" pushing the carrier bearing out of its housing and the front driveshaft into the t-case. Dissassembly revealed no lubrication and plenty of rust between the splines. This joint is normally covered by a boot and I suppose "lubed for life". I had our local driveshaft repairman replace the slip joint with one that is greaseable and now all is well. T-case appears fine. Just thought I would share this with everyone. Try to grease the splines by pulling the boot back if possible to help prevent the mess I was in.
