I didnt even want to talk about Carson Dodge in the same thread as my other dealer dealings. . and because the story is long Ill continue it here...

Fast forward to Yesterday... and the other end of the truck buying experience

CARSON DODGE-TOM PORTER-internet sales manager (775) 883 2020

Based on directions from others on the forum I had been directed to Tom last week... I had called him. . what a pleasure to deal with

Tom went over my special order. . referred me to his upfitter,, had up front pricing... and was TDR friendly

As I began dealing with him I realized that I was speaking with someone who really wanted to provide me service. . and who was low pressure... ameanable to doing work for me answering questions and was happy to fax me truck build sheets so I could sit in my office and look at his stock. . instead of on a lot... looking at hungry salesman... Weve all been there. . we all HATE that

As I priced out the commercial cab it was apparent that the truck would come in around 45k with my specd body, all said and done... so I asked him the same question I had asked to others... "have any trucks in front of you that might meet my needs". . not hiding. . not maybe. . not in the computer. . but in front of you.....

After a number of faxes and calls I found a CREWCAB 06 4x for 29,500... . thousands less than I had been quoted by others )up to FIVE THOUSAND LESS than Crown)... no salesman speak. . no B. S. . no "persuading"... just "this is what I have . Cam. . how can I help"

Its now 3 pm yesterday

In short order I found the truck I wanted,,, but wait. . I really wanted an exhaust brake. . now Im going to have to drive 6 hours up there, tomorrow, (sunday) make the deal. . come back again. . leave the truck, hang around. . yada yada...

Tom, calls me back. . hey. . no problem. . we'll hold our lead mechanic over tonight and he'll put it on for you ..... (when do you EVER hear that from a dealer on Saturday at almost close time?) Tom said that Sundays were his day off but that he would drive in to deliver the vehicle if I wanted... WOW... service is still alive

The deal went seamlessly... Tom went out of his way to work with me. . I dont think I ever heard the words, "NO. . we cant do that" come out of his mouth. . I realize now thats the only thing that I could depend upon with my local dealer... was the word NO...

Another member here said vote with your dollars. . man was he on the money

I give Carson 4 stars

I drove the truck home... speed limit. . thru the mountains

239 miles... 10. 4 gallons of fuel accurately measured... (Carson filled my tank to the brim. . wow... how many times do you buy a new truck only to have to drive it immediately to the fuel depot because it only got a 5 gallon fillup)

Im flabergasted

thanks everyone... Ill go over with 3rd gen now... but maybe Ill visit you cutting edgers again

(mods . . thankyou for my digressing threads. . I wont do it again)

ps I should add he had some 6. 7's close to what I was specing. . I just couldnt pass on "more" truck for my money at $29,500

Congratulations on a great buying experience. One thing I didn't see in your post was a mention of a Ca certified vehicle. I'm sure Carson dialed you in on that necessity. You really did your homework. Great initial fuel economy too! Best of luck!

I bought our 2002 Ram & 2002 Concorde from Carson Dodge. I really have never had a problem with them. Always had good service from Carson Dodge.

yes. we explored the location on the cummins block where it says "certified for california emissions". . just in case the dmv people cant find it...

I forgot to mention the saturday clinics and obviously if you buy you can attend. . great way to find out about your truck and ask all the questions we ask each other on here...

I haven't dealt with Tom, but have three times with Chuck Gillies at Carson. Also a standup guy. Congrats on your new ride.

Im already in the process of removing the logos. . I have them off,, now its time for the sticky stuff,,, I have a product out of oregon that works wonders on getting them off and doesnt do anything to the finish. . just turns the sticky stuff gooey

The truck is everything I hoped for. . currently Im looking at bulding a custom built (Im a weldor) aluminum flatbed with boxes... . I already have a mounting system figured out that wont hurt the flex frame in any way

stay tuned. . over in the 5. 9 forum

now. . if I can only find stainless steel trim rings for those 17 inch wheels. . all I find is chromed pastic

thanks all

I drove from New Mexico to Carson Dodge last spring to buy my truck... ... ... ... ... ... . and I'll do it again when the time comes!

I have to agree, bought an 01 Dakota there and the we just got Mom her Megacab in Oct. We went thru Dave Butler via John Holmes (TDR big dog) and also took the wife to the diesel 101. Left the truck there and had the jake, performance kit, alittle wheel well chrome and new mud flaps and mats. Came back to a spotless Atlantic Blue Megacab with everything available from DC except training wheels and cab lites, a full tank and the keys waitin in Dave's hand. I have an 05 3500 and I was having a hard time keeping up with those tailites for the 220 miles home that nite!!:)(I think she likes it) Best truck we have ever driven :D

I pitched it to my boss in Reno and introduced him to Dave and 5 days later him and his partner and nephew all had one!

Carson Dodge also has a forum run by John Holmes, check it out.
