Flashlight advice

I've decided to put the 70 340 Duster back in service as a daily driver. It's been in semi storage for the last 15 years (after a lot of restoration work).

My question has to do with the electric choke on the Carter carb I'm gonna run on it. (I don't have a stock AVS that's worth a hoot). What's required to wire the choke. My guess is just run switched 12v to it and make sure the ground wire is in place. Again my guess is that when the choke has been energized for a few minutes, the coil inside will expand, breaking contact and stop drawing power.

Does that sound about right?

Thanks, RJR

Almost right. When you supply 12v to the choke it heats up the element which in time opens the choke against spring tension. If you remove power, such as with an internal contact, the spring tension will reapply the choke.

Bottom line is that the power is applied to the heating element any time the 12v switched circuit is on, which is any time the ignition switch is on. It is only a small amount of current, but must remain on to prevent the choke reapplying.

Hope this helps!

Bigkid59, thanks for the info.

As an aside, I lived in Helena AR from 88 till mid 92. We had a few good meals at a restaurant in Horn Lake. I can't recall the name, but it was in a old white house, they used the classic red and white check oil cloth on the tables, had sweet tea (unheard of in some parts and great service.
