At this point I haven`t seen proof that it can`t be done???
When you are OOC on I-80 at a rest area in Wyoming wouldn`t it be worth a try.
I just have never done that sort of thing with an in tank diesel pump(AND I HOPE I NEVER HAVE TO).
Most of the time your not lucky enough to make it to a rest stop. :(

Absolutely would try! Just sayin', on a nice day with an empty 'dance card', set it up & try. It'll prolly be a good investment in time & prep if tubing & clamps are at the ready?!? Pls. don't forget pics - an awesome future thread, eh.

Hopefully there will be some warning signs?
Coast to coast eleven times with no real trouble(YET).
I got a warning sign 4 days ago; stumbled for a moment, quick enough to make me think, "Did I feel something or not?" Then 5 sec later engine killed & I'm struggling with both arms to steer it off the road. Nope, can't call that scenario a 'warning'.

5 years ago, on our way home from picking up our new 5th wheel, it stumbled 4 doors from our house, I began breaking to temporarily park at my driveway, stopped to let wife out, engine quit. Gotta say "Clyde" got us home alright. An hour later local tow company lifted my truck's front end, pulled the whole rig forward 75ft., then proceeded to back it all up into the driveway, uphill. We never seem short on entertaining the neighbors - New camper? Yup. Broke truck? Yup. Best of luck to ya.

On my 98 I had two engine block mounted lift pump failures (one OEM Carter, one AD Raptor), both several hours from home. I ended up mounting an AD100 on the frame but left the engine mounted pump in and plumbed in a bypass off the tank. A quick flip of two ball valves, unplug the AD100 from the factory harness and plug in the engine mounted pump and good to go.

Of course after I went through all that I never needed it
