That's funny... ... ... ... . alot of us have been using them for auxillary lift pumps on the Cummins! That's what I told the guy at Sumit Racing today when he gave me that statement. Are they "really" not to be used with diesel?? I don't remember seeing that anywhere with the (yet to be installed) one I've got.....

What would make a pump NOT diesel compatible? The seals? I would have that gasoline to be harsher, but my guess is that it would depend on the material used to creat the seals.

I hope you get an answer to this, 'cause I've been running mine for about 10k miles now, and would like to think that it will last a while longer!

If it will hold up to gasoline, it should certainly hold up to diesel fuel. Gasoline, being a lighter end hydrocarbon, would be much more apt to dissolve seals than diesel fuel.

The Grainger catalog has a section in the rear listing several different rubber/plastic compounds and their compatibility with various liquids. Don't ask me why but there are by far more compounds incompatible with diesel than with gasoline.

A good example are the fuel hoses that that need replacing on 12 valves, unless you use fuel line specifically rated for diesel it will likely melt.

Carters fine

Been using a carter P4000 (?) or P4100 (?) can't remmember which # for sure, however, it's the 7psi one for over 40,000 miles as a pusher pump, with no leaks or problems.

Yes they are compatiable. Atleast that what the sales lit. from Napa book says. Also I believe it says that in the carter instructions info sheet... Kurt

Also our stock lift pumps are almost they same pump made by carter.

I knew there were compatible;) , that's why I was poking fun at the lack of knowledge some of these so called "technical specialts" have.

Is it safe to assume that all the carter pumps are diesel compatible? I was thinking of using a smaller pump than the 4100 for use as a fuel transfer pump from an aux tank.
