Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) casting number location-53block?

Hi, Im looking at a 2000 year model truck on ebay that is exactly what I want but dont want a 53 block. Since it is three states away, the seller was good enough to lay under the truck with the phone and look for the number but there is nothing in the usual location between the ps pump and crossmember just above the pan rail. Is this the right location? Could it be anywhere else? There are no numbers at all, not 53, 56 or small mexican block numbers. Thanks in advance, Ron
