Just got back from my ail and filter change at the Dodge dealer. When I bought the trk they said for an extra 360 bucks they would give me life time luble oil and filter changes. Every three months or every 3000 miles (not to exceed 4 per year). Well I thought this is a good deal since I plan on keeping the trk for over 300k miles or more, So sign me up. They were using Delo 15/40 and that is pretty good oil. Well this last change I asked the service manager are you still using Dello 125/40? Nope we are now using Castrol 15/40 synthetic blend. Is this approved by Cummins I asked. His reply was it is approved by Chrysler who warrants the engine instead of Cummins.

My question is this. Is this oil OK or should I just start doing my own oil changes and go back to Dello?

Thanks in advance. By the way my truck now has 186K pluss on it.

Check it out first. Usually is some information printed on a bottle of oil. Look for SAE seal. Then look at the list of motors that it is approved in. Try doing a search online.

Well since I am not allowed to watch the actual work done on my trk it is very hard to look at the container the oil comes in. Maybe I should do a search on Castrol thru my search engine and see what I come up with.

Personally I would not worry about it. If you are changing it every 3k miles almost any oil will provide good protection, even the cheap Walmart brand stuff :)

If the Castrol synthetic blend oil your talking about is called Tection, I've been using it in my CTD and it's fine. The only problem with it is that Castrol can't seem to decide on what to call it. Proir to Tection I believe it was called Enduron S, and prior to that Enduron, and prior to that yet another name after they bought the product line from Drydene. Under the Drydene banner it had been called Dieselall Plus and Dieselall. As I recall the explanation given to my by my dealer, Dieselall Plus was when it went partially synthetic. He also said that every time Castol decided on a name and went into production, they subsequently learned there was a name conflict with some other product, thus the frequent name changes. "Whew!"

Anyway, oil analysis of my "Enduron S" suggested very good wear characteristics and I personally feel it's among the best. I just don't know what to ask for anymore when I go to buy it.

I contacted Castrol on line and they sent me an e-mail with the data on their 15/40 synthetic blend which is approved for all diesel engines, & heavy duty truck diesel engines.

Like you say since it gets changed every 3000 miles or 3 months I wont worry about it.

Thanks for the replys.
