how much would it cost to rebuild or replace this motor?

Never heard of a CAT 1160... . but then again Im just a young'in at 24.



Where did the engine come from (or out of)?

I did a quickie search on Google and it looks like they are going 4,000--5,500 bucks for used/exchanged engines..... not sure on rebuild prices.



Do a google search and see if you can come up an engine rebuilder or a diesel shop in your area. Be warned though, the CAT name means you'll spend $$$$ for parts or a rebuild.

Cat 1160. Eairly version of the 3208. Best one is 3208T. First two are naturally aspirated. Its been a long time since I rebuilt one but 5-6K doesn't sound out of the ballpark. A used core crank is worth 1200.



If you go to used truck alley in Fontaina, CA. you can probably pick up a cabover ford 2 axle tractor with a good 3208 for under 5k. Drive it home and you have an engine and a lot of other good parts.
