Very interesting news, thanks for pulling the diesel curtians back. The only thing that I see is going to be above and beyond what most diesel heads deal with no regarding the ACERT system are the catalysts. At least over where I work, on a different brand, the catalysts work well with soot reduction, but do require maintenence that is a bit more than changing filters and fluids.
Is a catalyst like a catalytic (sp?) converter? How does it cut down on soot?
I find it interesting that cats were put on the 12v's and not the 24v's. Is this simply because the 24v's were that much cleaner? I didn't think cats were very effective on diesel engines anyway.
This is good stuff, and I'm glad to see these companies doing everything they can to get around EGR! TPyle: that was good stuff. Got anything else to share? Size of turbos on the twins?
The catalysts that I have seen used on diesels look a lot like a bee hive honeycomb, but smaller holes. It takes an expensive but simple machine at work to blow out the soot from them after a certian restiction is reached. The fit into a housing that looks a lot like a regular big muffler, but disassembles to remove the catalyst. Oh yeah, the catalyst I hear was like 4K to replace
