I am sure this has been disucssed prior and I looked for it and did not find the exact answer. Did the '05s come with a cat AND a resonator or just the cat? (Build date 12/10/04 so it came with the cat. ) However looking underneath I see nothing that looks like a resonator only the muffler and the cat. The placard on the side of the engine says it has a cat code and that it is California emmisions compliant. It, of course, came with the muffler. Thanks.

You really have an 04. 5 like mine so just a kitty and muff. Funny Cali screwed up on the emissions book they don't recognize half year changes so we are considered a 04 so theoretically we can take off the cat.

I belive only the mega cabs ever came with a resonator, Mine had one just in front of the rear axle, never seen them on a QC or SC.

wondering if the length of the exhaust pipe had anything to do with it since everything has a resonance to it .

The only trucks to have a resonator are the mega's, which didn't start until 06.

Actually it would still be a MY05, my MY05 truck was built in Oct 04 and is very much an 05.

If the truck was originally sold in cali it would have a cat, even as a 04. 0.

Not true on the 04 and a cat the Cal book showed no cat on 04 this was per the emission tester who did my truck he didn't even crawl under the truck and look. So go figure

Yap screwed I up on the date code ,my build date was 1/04 first month of the 600 motor

well on the valve cover engine ID tag it will say it came with a cat, if a tech looks at it and there is no cat then he may not pass it regardless of what the book says.

Hmm, I thought all cali trucks have had cats for many years?

the book is their gospel that is the guideline they go by unless it's been updated. He nver looked at the tag on the valvecover

Thanks all. I purchased the truck new in Nevada, however, we are so close to California (about 10 miles) that virtually all new vehicles sold are California emmissions compliant. I never touched the engine or exhaust as I did not want there to be any warranty issues denied for mods. So far at 86,000 miles there has been zero non scheduled maintenance nor any repairs. Best truck I have ever owned. I had just read about the resonator and was wondering where it was and if I had one. Guess not. Interesting responses and thanks again.
