Wow that was a quick flame job.

I too served in the military and I too was stationed on Okinawa '59-'61. By no means do I mean to disrespct anyone. I just believe that the economy works best when America works. Yeah I know all about the Japanese cars being made in this country however you and I have underwritten their factories through tax breaks and subsidies which is my/our tax dollars. Also the majority of the profit go back to corp. hq which is in the mother land.

Sorry I just have a problem with imports of any kind be it cars, clothes, electronics or what ever. I also have a problem with imported labor. Just my . 02 worth so flame away.

Jim

Jim,

I will be more calm, because my last message disappeared.

I appreciate your service to our country, first and foremost.

I hate to tell you, but if you take your computer apart you will find many circuit boards, and misc. other parts that were built in foreign lands. Same goes for almost every aspect of your life. I have a bag of pins on my desk at work, they are red, white, and blue ribbons signifying support our troops. Sadly, they were made in China, and I won't use them, or give them to anyone. That's a personal decision based on my opinion of China.

It would be IMPOSSIBLE to live a normal life with out inadvertently buying goods and supporting other countries.

I think me buying Toyota products for myself in the past, and for my wife currently, supports America, and more importantly, fellow Americans. I think me buying a new Ram supports citizens of Mexico. I have no problem with either scenario, Mexico isn't our enemy. Neither is Japan, or MOST other countries. This is a global economy, whether we like it or not.

My main point is it might be better to focus on our true enemies, and boycott their products and services.

SKargo, I think I understand the global economy thing. I think this is how it works. We ship all of our industry off shore, we import foreign labor and thus lower our standard of living and do away with the middle class in this country. Corporate profits are at an all time high such as the major oil co's. and the cost of said goods continues to go up. Then they ----- every time anybody asks for a peice of THEIR pie. Every time I see an imported product it equates to an american who lost his job through no fault of his own.

Global economy, what a joke. How about a 65billion dollar trade deicit with China. That, my friend is insane. Lets see if we can level the playing and then see if foreign labor can compete. Whadaya think.

:--)

I personally like having clean water, electricity, and health care and the ability to walk/drive to the corner of nearly every street in this country and know the place will have an assortment of whatever I want to buy or need. Something that I am not about to give up to lower my living costs enough to compete with the wages of most asian markets such as China. Have you ever thought about what we would need to do to truely level the field? We owe places like China so much not only by our own complacency, but that of nearly every major world power. Europe is just as much in debt to China and its region as we are. Half the corporations in Europe sublet their products out partially. China will never demand payment, it would destroy their economy since they would not have a consumer market for their products anymore.

If we increase the import tarriff's more, it will only allow the US companies to raise their profits, not their quality. We'd also loose our export market as well. Our farmers can't afford anymore hits.

I too would like to buy American and keep the profit at home, but a pure American built vehicle, like GM or Ford, just don't have the quality that my Toyota Avalon, which was built in Georgetown, Kentucky and my wife's Toyota Camry, which was also built in Georgetown, Kentucky, have. Many GM and Ford and there parts are overseas made anyway. So what is American made anymore?

I can tell you first hand that all of the money does NOT go back to Japan. I live about 13 miles from the Toyota Camry / Solara plant. I saw a report a month or so ago which said that Toyota has brought something like 5. 2 billion dollars to the local economy since the late 1980's. Thats pretty important to lot of hard working people around here. It's been a good relationship. Toyota brought the jobs and the money and the people here have worked hard and together they have got the #1 selling car in America. It's like that all around the country with many Japanese auto makers. IMO, there is no real reason to be down on them for anything.

Jim,

You missed (or ignored) key portions of my earlier post. The engine in my Acura 3. 2TL-S was manufactured in Ada, OH. Other components came from local suppliers in locales such as Fredericksburg and Mount Vernon, OH (I know - I lived in Knox County, Ohio for 22 years). In terms of content, it is classified as a domestic (U. S. ) vehicle. Both DaimlerChrysler and Honda are foreign companies. Do you really want to know what Daimler manufactured insofar as German war materiel is concerned during WWII? Honda, on the other hand, didn't even exist as a corporation until after WWII. I don't know what your reference to Mitsubishi has to do with anything since we're discussing Hondas (in my case) and Toyotas (in the case of some other posters. )

CEASE FIRE, CEASE FIRE!!! I just think back to the late 50s through the 70s and I do believe that life was a lot simpler then. No global econ. BS to worry about. Everybody had good jobs that paid dam good money. We didn't have to worry about anybody comming in to this country and under cutting the wage structure and taking our jobs. We actually manufactured things in this country like shoes, clothes, cars, TVs and we even had steel mills, imagine that. We weren't dependent on any country for any thing because we had it all and could do it all right here at home. Now you're trying to tell me that its better now, well I just don't see it. What am I missing.

What am I missing.

Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons, and Walt Disney were on the tube. :D

(Actually we didn't own a B&W tv until around 64. )

Well then get busy and build a time machine, because you are living in the past.

You see things one way, and obviously aren't open to other's opinions and facts, so I indeed will cease fire.

You got it there Ol' trail dog. Life couldn't get any better than that. I think our first tv was a 1951 by Muntz... made in America. I still have my familys first refrigator. It is a 1952 Bendix it has been moved 9 times and never had a service call on it and it is still running. Neighbors don't think much of it though... . when the motor kicks on it dims all the lights on the road :-laf :-laf It to is american made. . imagine that.
