My concrete contractor has just purchased a new truck. It's a very large GMC (7000 I think) that's powered by a Cat. After seeing what can be done to our Cummins he asked me what can be done for him.
does anybody know of after market products or suppliers for the yellow enginges?

thanks
Mike

Try these people (Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh), they claim to be able to upgrade Cats.

Kat,
No, I'm not sure which engine he has but I seem to recall that it made around 245 hp. . I remember thinking that an ISB RV type made more power.

We're pouring some slabs tomorrow so I pop his hood and take a peak.

Thanks
Mike

The GM Meduim Duty Trucks (18,000-61,000 lbs. GVWR) use a Caterpillar 3126B turbo diesel. Most Caterpillar engines are upgradeable with different turbos, pistons, injectors, etc. A frind of mine with a 3406 will br upgrading from 425 HP to 525 HP with a turbo and injector change. The 3126B is 7. 2L, and is available with ratings from 175 to 330 HP.

The 3126 cat engine can be upgraded at your
local cat dealer by having the ecm flashed
with the higher horsepower rating without
affecting the warranty. Only thing is it will
cost 700. 00 (a fee from cat) plus in most
cases a one hour labor charge from the dealer
no hardware has to be changed. If you wait
untill the engine is out of warranty you will
not have to pay 700. 00 to cat.

Thanks, I'll pass that information along to him. I check this morning and it's a 3126 rated at 190 hp.

For a truck that size I would think 190 hp is kinda light. It's an extended C6500 crew cab. Loaded with tools and Bob Cat he ran it over the scales at something like 30,000 #.
