Cat Powered Lawnmower.

I was curious when I saw my local department of public works sporting a new zero turn riding lawn mower with a yellow engine in it. Since I own my own landscaping company in addition to being a career firefighter and further yet, a diesel lovin kind of guy I was forced to do some investigating.



As It turns out the Ferris lawn mower company is now putting a little Caterpillar diesel in their top of the line 72'' ZTR. I have no idea on price but I'll bet it is around $15,000 or so. The only thing cooler would be a baby Cummins under the hood.

It may not actually be a Cat motor, it is possible it is a rebadged Perkins. Cat bought Perkins. Heard some Cat mechanics at one dealer call them Perkapillars.

It could also be a MitsuCat another rebaged product for Cat. They make a 3 cylinder for the skid steer!

It's a Perkins, I looked at one in person. It is painted all yellow and the mower has Cat diesel power emblems on it. If I were buying a mower I'd have to take a good look at one of those. Another nice feature they have is having 4 wheel independent suspension that allows for higher ground speeds.

I was so excited I forgot to mention the independent suspension. Anyway, The power for the CataPerk is 31. 5 HP in case someone wanted to know.



It is still a cool mower.

A friend of mine borrowed one last week for a demo. He loved it! I believe the list price is 14,000 and he had them down to near 13,300.

That yellow motor caught my eye as I passed the mower shop at almost 50 mph!! I just had to make a U-turn and check it out!!
