what is the cat test pipe and what does it do . are you legal if you take the cat off and replace it with the cat test pipe. i would love to drop that @@#%ing ... ... . cat. thanks

It's not legal to tamper with the emissions control system, which includes the catalytic converter. If you live in an area where they inspect vehicles for emissions, you'll need to keep the cat in place. If not, then you're ok for now removing it, unless someone finds it. If you do remove the cat I suggest doing so in such a way that it doesn't get destroyed and keep it someplace safe incase your area ends up testing one day, since they're not a cheap item.

Of course it's up to you to decide what you do to the truck and balance the risks of doing so versus the rewards.

The cat test pipe is just how it sounds, a piece of pipe to replace the catalytic converter after you cut it out.

blackcoal, it's a open 4" pipe section, (2004. 5 and up), one end is expanded and slips in place of the cat and the pipe sections welded to the cat. They say the cat doesn't hinder the performance. When I put my MBRP exhaust system in I tried the test pipe and it was too loud. So now the cat is back right in front of the MBRP muffler. PS. The factory clamps are tightened so tight that you may have to cut to portion ahead of the factory U-clamps to the the stock system off.
