Ok so I am ignorant, but tell me, where is the cat? Downstream flow goes Engine, Turbo, cat, muffler, resonator, tailpipe? Or am I wrong with the location? I want to do 5" cat back but how long of a run is it?

Thanks!

I don't know about the 06s, but the 04. 5s are turbo, cat, muffler, tailpipe...

The cat on the 04. 5s looks like a swelled spot in the pipe about 8 inches across with tapered ends...

i believe the mega cabs also have a resonator, so that would slip in between the muffler and tailpipe in the above order [*]

imho cat-back kits are a waste of time/money. i helped do one a week ago. while everything was off behind the cat we decided to drive around before installing the new parts. sound, performace, egts were exactly the same as with the full factory system... .

at least gut the cat while you're at it if you dont want to completely remove it

IMO, I would NOT gut the cat... I would remove it and store it for that day when you might need it to pass emissions...

true, thats the plan for mine. cat & muffler all coming off in one piece and replacing with a 4" straight pipe

just depends how you look at the situation though. may need it in place (at least the shell) to keep your warranty

I need to double check but I think our dealer wants the cat to stay on for warranty. He didn't care about the muffler unless the straight pipe somehow caused engine failure. The 5" would be for looks more than anything as I am not towing nor BOMBing it... yet.
