I noticed my truck still has the catalytic converter on it, at least I think that is what it is, just in front of the muffler. Is there anything to be gained by removing it?

mine was allready empty when i got my truck but when i went to a 4" straight exhaust i gained 4 pounds of boost on the top end (just short of the fuel cut off climbing a good sized bridge unloaded in 5th) with no other mods, so the rest of the stock system is fairly restrictive

What you are talking about is a resonator and it does not restrict and taking it off is not going to effect much.

2nd gen 12 valves built after 1/1/1994 have cats on them. It's the big round tapered tube under the passenger's floor. 24 valves came with a resonator and not a cat. Removing it will help spool of the turbo and reduce EGTs. I did not experience any difference in emission readings of opacity when mine was... "lost". If you remove it, save it in the back of the garage in case you need it again.
