hi idle

One thing I have notice... my PS high idler has always been running at about 1250 rpm when I use it. Now with the CaTHER installed the high idle goes to 1475 to 1500 rpm. No problems just interesting that it idles higher now with the CaTHER.

Well, Murle, at least you know the fan will pull enough air to keep the a/c condensor working. Always a bright side.

Me? I have to hold my foot on the pedal and put the 48RE in neutral when stopped in traffic to keep cool. My fan clutch is apparently not as good as it once was.

Darkhorse sez:

I've been listening more attenativly to my engine. I do believe Marco is right. The sound seems to get a bit deeper & sort of hollow when the smoke starts.

-----------------

Amen! That's it. Listen for that sound and you know everytime when the engine becomes overfuelled.

Richard your ECM is already in the States. Them lazy guys @ UPS don't work today? :-laf

KatDiesel, you've got E-Mail...

... . playing the mighty Cummins like a big bass horn. . it's getting easier to go no smoke. I don't see any at all when I'm taking it easy but the CaTCHER just begs to be pushed a little. Even when I do hear that deep bellow of the smoke show starting up, the boost rises very quickly & the trail of smoke is only a few truck lengths long.

Tomorrow I get to see if I can have all this fun & cruise control too. :D

I have found that if I just ease out on the clutch without give it any fuel, get to rolling then add fuel I have no smoke. Unless I really push the pedal after I start rolling. But of course I have a standard not a auto.

Sorry about your ECM, Eric :{ :{

Murle,

Believe me and the other's here...

I takes some time to get used to the CaTCHER. FAST and smokefree driving IS possible. Just give it a little time... You'll learn how to ease the throttle into it... :-laf

Marco

No problem Marco, I have learned to take off without any smoke. I took very little time to relearn how to drive the truck... . Oo.

Third Time's a Charm!

Marco, you got it right this time!! I now have my cake & the frosting too. :-laf I haven't finished the beer from last time  This time maybe I'll splurge & get Italian wine. :p I got better on my 6th ECM swap, only took 25 minutes this time & I had a cup of coffee while I worked too. I recalibrated the TPS, the wait to start worked fine, the same great power & cruise control that's spot on Oo. Compaired to the EZ, I can't say if the top has changed but she comes on like gang busters way down off idle, notacibly better now & it's fueling out to nearly 3'400rpm on my tach. I get the same great fule milage, that's to say about 20 mpg mixed conditions with hills. My conclusion; the Edge EZ is good, but I like the MAD CaTCHER better. :D

exactly my point, for those who choose to compare the ecm upgrade to the same powe as an ez... . give me a break and come take a test drive.

The newness has not wore off in this truck. very satisfied.

Apples to Apples...

In reply to Bob's MSG above.

We can't compare any box to the CatCHER. That's apples to oranges.

Different ways to obtain the power increase. Ain't fair...

We could compare the CaTCHER to the handheld tuners. Same thing, we write a different software into the ECM's memory...

I'm not getting nervous... .

Darkhorse,

Glad to hear that everything works now. I had no doubt... With the original ECM in my hands, no problem... .

Oh, yeah, what caused the CC problem?

I've used the exactly same software that I found in the original ECM. Only a few settings were different. Now I know... .

Thanks for your help!

Marco

Ok stupid question is this ECM gonna help out my spoolup times and low endpower in my setup not to beat a dead horse but didnt have time to read whole thread and wanted to cut to chase so I can order 1 if it's benifical to me thanks

So far that's exactly what every one whose tried the CaTCHER has reported, form otherwise stock to highly bombed.

So did I read you correctly Marco, is the cruise control issue fixed? That would be great as I know several folks who are holding off because of it... ...

Doug

First off, I've had a problem with the cruise control for the 01. 5's and electronic CC only. Yes that is fixed.

The vaccum types always "worked". Disclaimer, the vaccum type CC becomes way to sensitive with the CaTCHER. Steve has brought up a solution earlier in this thread.

Hope that answers your question Jetpilot.

From what I know today, all the problems we've had so far are fixed.

Marco

Marco,

I looked back through the thread but didn't see the solution... ... Can you reference what the fix is? Is it not just a program change by you?

Thanks,

Doug

Doug;

all you need to do is insert a small needle valve in series with the vacuum line to the cruise control diaphram. Close the valve off until it won't hold the speed and then open it back up enough to hold the speed on minor hills, but not enough to cause surging.
