Adjusting a Hobbs Pressure Switch

Well I just installed Marcos CaTCHER ecm today and immediatly noticed that this thing can poooooooor some smoke if not careful. I have the stage 3 injector tips right now, but was wondering if anyone knows for sure if going to some of DonM's Mach series may clean up my smoke issues at all? At idle if I just punch it and let off at 2000 rpm I bellow black out of the stacks. Dont get me wrong I like smoke but I dont think the stupid emissions station will. I tow 10,000lbs+ somewhat frequently so I would be looking for a good strong and clean injector for this task. I also am running twins so once boost builds it does clean up, just worried about taking off. Altitude here at home is 6,200'. What are the suggestions? Thanks guys, I know someone will give me some good info.

From what i understand EDM's do clean up smoke, but... ... . Sounds like you need not to stomp on the smoke pedal from a dead stop. Ease into it, better mileage, less smoke, and it will be easier on the whole truck. When the twins lite, they put ALOT of stress on the whole truck. Build a little boost before getting right after the smoke pedal.

BTW take some pic's so we can judge how much smoke is toooooo much ;)

If smoke is a SERIOUS concern to you, consider the Fitch Fuel Catalyst. It keeps smoke on my truck to reasonable levels, and cuts the opacity down so even if you have a lot of smoke, you will probably pass emissions test.

We don't have to pass emissions here in GA with diesel vehicles, but they don't appreciate the smoke that even my little EZ can toss out. I started using Diesel Kleen (not sure the manufacturer) it says its supposed to cut emission by 50%, I can't vouch for that but it does cut smoke levels down drastically, and the best part its good for the VP.

Its cheap too, one bottle is good for two-three tanks depending on how much cleaner you want it.

Justin,

I went to the website, saw the product, but still haven't a clue as to what it is? Little help here? Stated it could be installed inline or in tank, what does it do?

Thanks,

Casey

After driving it a bit today I can control the smoke from a stop. I also run Power Service diesel clean, I am more concerned about the person who would be running it on the emisions dyno. Our digital camera is being repaired right now but when I get it back I will take some pics. It is impressive!! So any opinion on the best injector to run with the Catcher?

I noticed a drastic reduction in smoke going from DD2's to Don's M3's. With an EZ and the 3's I made 380HP with a PDR35-12. And no temp issues at all.

I now have 4's and I'll peircing the pump wire tomorrow. Time for more air!!

It took me a few days to learn how to drive effectively with the Catcher. At first I found it very sensitive as well. Going down a bumpy campground road was challenging in terms of throttle control. But then driving on the freeway was also scary the first time or two. Fortunately driving in between is easy. For the past couple of weeks I have been seriously experimenting with different comp setting combinations to try and dial in my comfort zones. It has been a few weeks now so it is very easy at this point to control whatever I want to do depending on how hard I flex my big toe. I am very satisfied with the MAD setup at this point :-laf it really is a lot of fun to drive. I think a lot of my sensitivity and smoke was due to learning to control the lack of air for the given amount of fuel. I've been calling the little HY "InstaSpool" lately. It should be real interesting jumping up to a B1-2. With a little luck I should have it in hand if not installed before IRP.

You've already got twins. . so you've got the air. . Just have to get those things spooled... Depending on how big you go with the F1's will depend on the smoke level... You should be able to go up in size and keep the smoke the same. . (probably less. . )

I can really lay some smoke with the Mach 1. 5's and the catcher if you stomp on it but if you roll into the trottle i get a little puff at the start but not much. My BD2's that i had first would smoke like a train with the comp on most setting,EDM's Mach series are a much better, cleaner injector. My 2 cents. I'm even thinking of going bigger, maybe some of the new and improved Mach 4's ,i'm just sitting on the fence for a while to see how they work out with other users first,i'm definetly really thinking it over first, kind of nervous due to towing though the mountains with such big sticks . I dont want to drop the cash and than find out there too hot to run and than have to go down to some 2. 5's maybe. Still thinking and it hurts. :-laf :-laf :-laf

Patrick, I could lay down some mean smoke with just a Comp if I buried it off idle with no boost. I don't know that any injector would not do this with no/low boost. I will say that even with my old 4s that once the B1-2 started to light, smoke was gone, even up here in Denver. I would think with twins you could easily handle 4s of not 6s. I bet without low boost fueling control, any injector will smoke until the turbo/s come up.

I am kindof thinking that there wouldnt be a miracle injector out there but possibly a cleaner one. I also noticed with my old Comp box I could puff some smoke with a snap of the throttle in neutral, but this Catcher really adds some fuel. We got our camera back today so I will try to post a few pictures tomorrow morning to show you guys the intense black smoke. Like I said earlier I have learned to control it so it is not too big of a deal, but would still like some more powerful injectors.....
