Diesel Progress has a short article on the new on-highway Cat transmissions. They bolt right up to C7 and C9 engines, and are available for RV applications.

Now, I'm not a big fan of Cat engines, but I imagine if someone came up with a way to mount a C7 and a Cat transmission in a light diesel pickup I think they'd outsell everyone on Earth!

Anyone know anything about the strength/reliability of these transmissions?

Too early to tell for reliability(I haven't seen any in the shop yet anyway). Unfortunately, it's waaaaay too big for any light duty pickup.

Bigger than an Allison 1000 series? Of course, the C7 is probably also way too big to fit in a normal pickup. Maybe a larger 4500-5500 series truck?
